Disclaimer: I couldn't possibly own Grey's Anatomy !! If I did, believe me, Nick wouldn't have died!!
Summary: Yes, she's invovled with Mark Sloan, and was involved at the time with Alex Kerav, so what? She's still in love with Nick, right ?? Right ??
PS: Nick (Seth Green) appeared in the Episodes "Crash Into Me (1)" & "Crash Into Me (2)" in Season 4. I know he & Lexie were just friends, but I couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if he survived.
---
Lexie sighed. It's been a long day. She's lost two patients. The first died while waiting for a new heart, and the other suffered from a ruptured artery.
That sort of rings a bell.
Flashback
"Well, you want be to help you plot your revenge?" Nick asked sarcastically
"Okay," Lexie agreed, chuchkling
"Here's what I'm thinking. You go out with me. Just like that. Bam! New boyfriend. And he'll be all 'what's he got that I don't have?' And you'll be all 'Carotid Artery exposed... Top that, loser,' and he'll be all 'I can't, I can't top that, I am a loser'"
Lexie never pictured herself laughing after what Alex did to her, but right there, she was laughing like she never did before. And her heart couldn't stop beating 100 beats/second.
And just like that, what was before a moment of happiness, turned into a nigtmare.
Nick's artery brust. For a second, Lexie didn't know what to do, but she had to act quickly.
End Of Flashback
Although she was able to stop the blood, Nick died. It was devestating for Lexie. It snapped her out of denial. She had no one. She wasn't close to the other interns except maybe George.
Flashback
"You did a good job today. That was not easy. What you did was not easy, it was brave." Lexie hardly understood the words Cristina was saying. She did feel like she did enough, not nearly, not at all.
"We killed him. The hospital, Sloan, us... we were not prepared" Even as she said it, she believed in her heart that it was her fault he died. She got too close, she let him in, she made him laugh. She killed him.
End Of Flashback
No aware of what she's doing, Lexie smiled, as she remembered his last words to her.
"Hey, I am in love with you now. I entirely forgot about my ex." She wished that it was true, what he said.
What if she didn't make him laugh that day?
What if she just did her job professionaly?
Would he have died?
But, no, if she just did her job, she wouldn't have been able to get to know him. What made her love him, was that she knew him.
What if he hadn't died, though?
What if he lived, to see another day?
But what Lexie doesn't know is that Nick, wherever he was now, was grateful for one thing, he got to see Lexie one last time before she died. He got to laugh with her. He got to see the horror in her eyes when she knew she could lose him.
He died in her care. He died in her arms.
He knew she fought hard to keep him alive. He knew what she did was, indeed, not easy. What she did was not easy, it was brave.
"You can't cry Lexie. This isn't over. You can't cry."
