What Could Have Been – The Mentalist.
Cho
Kimball Cho could have been anything he wanted to be. A all A grade student right up until high school, various accolades and prizes for science and maths and of course mechanics, as well as being a hot shot baseball player. That was, until the temptation of the Avon Park Playboys had come knocking on his door.
Sure he'd had his fair share of fist fights and the occasional showing of his bravado, but never before had he seen the horrors of what gang life brought with it. The first day in the group and the lead member had killed a man. For the paper he had in his wallet. A young Kimball Cho had swallowed down his shock, for he didn't want to be seen cowardly. In the 1st month he had witnessed 14 muggings, 3 stabbings a shooting and an armed robbery. At the age of 14 he himself had stolen a car.
Then the turning point came. The Iceman shot his leader in the shoulder, for though a gang member, Kimball Cho was still human and he soon began to realise that the gang life he had lived within for so long was perhaps not the life he wished to live in any longer. The leader KP had ordered the home invasion of an elderly woman. This was the line he had been waiting for. Cho took his glock, and fired two rounds into KP's shoulder.
Within weeks Cho enlisted in the U.S. Army, eventually serving in the Special Forces, for Cho's weaponry expertise were wasted in the ordinary life of the average American.
And then the CBI were recruiting. Kimball Cho found that though the army had served it's purposed as a replacement for the Playboys, he found that the military did not always serve the justice he so longed to see.
He worked his way up through the ranks, under the watchful eye of Teresa Lisbon, the most hard working woman he had ever come to know. He was pretty sure that if they hadn't looked so weird as a couple he would have fallen in love with a woman like Lisbon. Though he soon came to realise that even he, was no match for her strength. The pair blossomed into an unlikely friendship.
Yet out of all of his career choices, Kimball never thought he would become the relationship counselor to one Mr. Patrick Jane, who was out to court his boss.
"If you keep staring at her like that, you'll burn a hole in her shirt." Said Cho, from behind his book.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Said Patrick Jane, adjusting a pillow behind his head to make himself more comfortable.
"Just ask her out. You like her. She likes you. She also likes lilies. Just for future reference eh?" still not taking his nose out of his book. Lucky that too, for he was smirking at Jane's deer in a headlight look.
"Lily's eh?" said Jane thoughtfully, closing his eyes and feigning sleep once more.
Kimball Cho could have been anything he wanted to be, though he wasn't entirely sure if relationship councillor to Patrick Jane was one of those things.
