Magick was nothing new to Alice, being raised as a Wiccan, and she was unsurprised when she received a letter written in emerald ink. What did surprise her was her parents' reaction to the news that she had been accepted into a witchcraft school. After a quiet discussion, they decided to at least buy the supplies, they could always decline the acceptance.
Two weeks later, they found the place known as "Diagon Alley" to buy Alice's school supplies. They looked at her list. "A caldron...we can just give her one of ours. An animal...we already have a cat. A ton of books, none I've heard of. A wand..." her dad frowned at the last item then looked around until he saw Olivander's Wand Shop. "Here we go," he muttered, leading his wife and daughter to the store.
The bell rang as they walked in and an old man hurried in from the back. "Hello, hello," he greeted enthusiastically, "Ah, another young witch on her way to Hogwarts. Welcome, indeed." He studied the eleven year old before returning to the back, coming out minutes later with a stack of boxes. "First we have an ash wood wand with a dragon heartstring core. Give it a wave, dear."
Alice waved the wand, knocking several boxes from the shelf. "No, no..." He pulled out another wand, "try this one. Ebony with a unicorn tail hair core."
Alice held the wand and magick surged through her body. Olivander grinned widely, "Perfect!"
After purchasing the wand, Alice and her parents went to the bookstore, Flourish and Blotts, and went to the closest employee. "Excuse me," her mother smiled politely, "We're looking for some books, could you help us?" The employee was happy to help them find all the books on their list.
When they got home, Alice was given her school supplies and sent to her room. She was awake half the night reading her school books, getting more and more excited.
