Jane ran her fingers through her hair, it was Christmas Eve and Darcy had been driving her crazy with the constant carols and dirty Santa jokes. All Jane wanted to do was finish her research and get her shopping done, which was another thing Darcy was pestering her about.
Jane had spent every day in the lab, researching and discovering and hitting dead ends that she still hadn't bought presents yet. It wasn't like Jane to be so disorganised.
Jane sat back down and dropped her pen. She thought of what to buy. Darcy would be easy, she'd been begging for the new iPhone 5. Thor on the other hand would be a lot harder. He was from a whole other world for crying out loud! He's a Prince! He'd be used to extravagant gifts made out of gold and showered in fine jewels and silks.
Jane wondered if they even had Christmas in Asgard. She had evidence to back that up when Halloween came around and Thor was ready to battle all of the people in costumes.
"Uhh.. Jane?" Darcy asked nervously as she approached the scientist. Jane looked up and motioned for Darcy to continue. "Thor heard me playing the Twelve Days of Christmas and I think he took it literally-"
Jane didn't even wait for Darcy to finish, she just ran past her friend and onto the roof where Thor sat.
"My lady Jane! You have arrived!" Thor boomed theatrically.
"Thor, what have you done?" Jane cried.
"I have learned the Twelve Days of Christmas and realized that I had forgotten to buy you all of the extravagant gifts mentioned in the song." He beamed. "But have no fear, Lady Jane, for they are right here!"
Thor gestured behind him, where the gifts sat. Thor clearly did not understand the song properly.
Jane's eyes widened as she saw twelve men who looked like they were from a marching band, drumming. Eleven men running around with pipes which made no sense to Jane. There were male ballet dancers dressed as gods, leaping in all directions. There were nine young ladies dancing around drunk, eight hotel maids milking cows, even seven swans swimming in a bathtub that Thor had managed to carry onto the roof. There were six geese waddling around as Thor urged them to lay eggs for Jane. Thor held up a box which had five rings made out of gold inside while four mocking birds flew by. Three hens wearing berets clucked by and two doves flew around the pear tree in the middle of it all.
"Thor, it's an old song." Jane began to explain once she had gathered herself. "People don't actually do this and all of the gifts are metaphors for religious items and legends."
"But I do not understand…" Thor began. "Norse.."
"This is Christianity." Jane muttered to him before sighing and sitting on the ground, right next to one of the geese. "Where did you get all of this?"
"The magical portal the lady Darcy uses to read the book of faces." Thor replied, still smiling.
"So you heard all of this from Darcy?" Jane huffed. "I'll be right back."
With that, Jane turned on her heels and made her way back to the lab where she knew Darcy would be waiting. Darcy was in so much trouble.
