Sonic the Hedgehog: Teaser

He looked at the river bank; it was pure terrain with dark green grass on it.
Perfect for a run.
He slowly and grudgingly stood on his feet, the very core of his soul following the calling of the word 'run'. He had to go; the pulling was to far strong for the logical part of his mind. He didn't cared if he would wound up getting worse…
He had to run.
And so he did. At first he took off walking, then it became a slow jog until he was running.
Faster.
And so, following the words that came from within him, he went faster until his surroundings started becoming a little blurry on the edges of his vision. Instead of being scared of it, he liked it. Like he was meant to run.
Faster!
He increased his pace again, and the surroundings became blurrier; only in front of him things were clear. He noticed, however, that they were 'stretched', like in a wide angle lens photo.
FASTER!
Adrenaline was pumped in his bloodstream and he forgot about his wounds; his vision sharpened and the wind started resisting him.
GO FASTER!
With a loud boom, he broke the shield that the wind had put up to stop him; afterwards, running became almost effortless and he could hear nothing but his heart beating in his ears.
Soon, fatigue caught up with him and he slowed down to a normal pace until his legs collapsed under him, making him fall backwards; in that little moment he smiled to the sky. A mild loud bang reached his ears, the very same that he created when he broke the wind barrier. He had run, and he had been so fast that he had beat the sound, producing a sonic boom.
Sonic…
He hit the ground and laid there, looking at the now almost orange sky; now he knew…
His name was Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog.

I know it's short, but being a teaser...
Well, tell me what you think about it, as this Sonic 1 adaption will be my next work after I'm done with CT.
Now, I'd like to receive constructive critique as "No, you better leave this adaption alone as we're tired of these.", or "Go for it, I'd like to see your own version." accompained with some explanation on your choice.
I would really appreciate that.
