Summary: Drabble with some unstable!sam thrown in. Spoilers for season 6. Both hear the words, but only one understands.

Dean watched his brother's impassive face as the girl invaded his personal space.

"Which one do you follow?" her words were measured and heavy, like every syllable took concentration to get out and was of upmost importance. She stared up at him with wide eyes.

Dean watched nervously, afraid Sam could perceive her as some kind of threat. And really, he had no idea what his brother was capable of with no soul to guide his actions.

"Sam…" Dean called in warning.

Sam looked up at his brother for a moment and Dean saw he was completely calm, but he did look confused, eyebrows scrunched up. Not that that wasn't expected when an unstable girl, speaking in jibberish, was a couple inches away from your face.

Sam turned his attention back to the girl.

"What do you mean?"

She looked frustrated, but repeated.

"Which one do you follow?"

Dean was about ready to pull the kid away from Sam, unease and concern for Sam's safety beginning to creep in, but stopped. Sam's expression had changed, his eyes had taken on the same look as the girls, distant and knowing. Too old for their skins.

"The one in the west."

He answered her and she beamed. Dean was taken aback. Did Sam understand her? She was clearly insane. Her words didn't mean anything. Maybe a code…Whatever it was, she seemed ecstatic that Sam seemed to understand her. She continued on.

"Because it's the farthest away because-"

"Because the stars are like the sun. Rising and setting."

A shiver ran down Dean's spine. Sam wasn't humoring her. He knew what she was saying. He understood and suddenly Dean felt like he was watching his little brother drift away in a manner that had nothing to do with being soulless.

AN: Just quick notes on what they were saying. They were talking about Lucifer being the morning star. Comparing stars to the sun. So basically, Sam was just saying that he followed the west, since the sun (and supposedly Lucifer in his mind) rose from the east.
