Winter in Philadelphia

February 1985 - Snow heavily blankets the farm, and the wind roars at the homestead. The excitement of the snow has even worn off on Samuel, who has grown restless in the short days. She decided last week that a change of scenery was in order. She sold one of her best quilts to purchase train tickets to go see her sister in Baltimore. At least, that's what she had told everyone. She hadn't mentioned the one day layover in Philadelphia.

Samuel saw him first letting go of her hand to running full speed ahead to the lone figure leaning against a pillar.

"Mr. John!" He cried while lunging at him. Caught off guard, he slightly stumbled as the boy threw his arms around his middle.

"Good to see you too, buddy!" He said patting the boy on the head, as Samuel his death grip on his torso. "I think you've gotten stronger."

Looking up, his eyes caught hers and a crooked grin spread across his face. She stopped just in front of him. "John, it's good to see you."

He glanced away awkwardly nodding his head, before making eye contact once more. "It's good to see you too." He moved to relieve her of her luggage when their hands touched causing him to freeze unsure of what to do. Meanwhile she continued to gaze longingly at him. They stood in a momentary trance, before a tugging at their sleeves caused them to break apart.

"Can I have a hotdog?"
