Spencer limped through the halls of the BAU.
It's bad enough got shot and lost his husband; now their Unit Chief is taking a major leave and leaving Rossi in charge.
"Hey Reid!"
Spencer turned around to Prentiss.
"Hey."
Prentiss looked remorseful as she put her hand on his arm.
"You need to talk about it."
Spencer's calm gesture snapped.
"I don't need to do anything! What happened happened, and I don't need to relive that, thank you very much."
Prentiss shrunk back.
Spencer stared then closed his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I just…"
"It's okay, I understand. But you can't keep all these feelings locked up. It destroys people, you know."
"I-I know." Spencer sighed.
"So you'll talk?"
Spencer nodded slowly.
"Yeah. I'll talk."
Prentiss smiled and lead him to the break room.
They sat down and wrapped their hands around their coffee cups.
Spencer sighed again. Okay. Go.
The year earlier…
Spencer ran and kneeled to Derek, who had, a steak through him.
"Derek! Derek-honey, oh God…"
He placed his hand on Derek's bleeding abdomen.
"Spencer-baby, I need to tell you something…"
"Derek, no. Please stop talking like this."
"Listen." Cough. "I love you. With everything I have and everything I have left." Cough. "I don't want you mourning for the rest of your…" Hard cough, eyes fading away. "Your life. Please promise me that."
Spencer sobbed and nodded. "I promise. I love you Mr. Derek Reid-Morgan."
Derek smiled a small smile. "And I love you Dr. Spencer Reid-Morgan."
"And that was it. That was the last thing I heard him say." Spencer sobbed through tears.
Prentiss rubbed his shoulders.
"And I'll never hear him say it again."
"Yes you will. You'll reunite again and you'll hear again."
Spencer sniffed and nodded.
He will hear it again.
