So many years have passed since that day, few people remember about me.
I am the Rms Lusitania, a Cunard liner, once an amazing, beautiful and fast ship, now an unseen rusty ship lying on the bottom of the Ocean, it is so awfully lonely, uncanny and gloomy down here.
Maybe you are wondering what has happened to me... Why am I buried in this sandy sea-floor beneath these icy waters? Who was so cruel to do this to me?
Sometimes I look back at my past, at that terrible day.
It was one of my many voyages from America to Ireland, a very long one. But there was a menace stalking me. The German submarines or better known as U-Boats, were a real threat for us ships.
The First World War was ongoing, at first the U-Boats only targeted warships but soon the enemy declared British waters a war zone so my voyage was unsafe.
The German embassy put out in newspapers a warning to passengers not to sail on me on my next trip across the Ocean but, apparently, everyone thought I was safe enough, so huge, so awesome, so untouchable. Although the myth of the "unsinkabilty" fell away after the Titanic disaster.
Anyway, when my voyage started, the sea was smooth as glass. Everyone was happy with me but just after a few days the worst occurred. An unseen submarine spotted me and launched a torpedo towards my path. I knew I was doomed. There was no hope. The pain was really too much to bear.
I heard the passengers panicking and struggling for their lives and for their loved ones but there was no time left, I was clearly sinking, and fast. I felt the cold water rushing through my endless corridors.
The officers had difficulty loading the lifeboats because of my list to starboard but they tried to save as many people as they could.
So in just 18 minutes I disappeared beneath the surface as if I hadn't ever existed.
The people left in the sea called out for help but I wasn't able to do anything but listen to those painful cries.
Luckily hours later they were rescued by another ship and vessels, the scene was sure heartbreaking...
Another haunting marine disaster had happened.
A ship and a lot of innocent people lost their lives on that tragic day. May 7, 1915.
