"I am trying to act in the best interests of Narnia, sir! Are you?"

The outburst exploded from his chest with a force that undoubtedly stemmed from the frustration of a council meeting that had dragged through much of the morning. The faun that his tirade had been directed at turned red as a tomato, and he seemed to puff up to three times his normal size.

"King Edmund, I don't think that you are in any position to question my dedication to this country or her well-being! As I remember, you are the one that betrayed your-"

The faun stopped abruptly, and an icy silence descended upon the council. Edmund sat up very straight, in utter shock. The color had drained from the faun's face as quickly as it had appeared, and he quickly lowered his eyes so that they would not meet the icy stare of his King's. Edmund stood up abruptly, and the council members rose as well, even the abashed faun.

"The council is dismissed." Edmund declared, and was impressed that his voice had not betrayed the turmoil raging in his body.

He tried to meet the gaze of the faun one last time, and then swept out of the room.
