Dragons and Dinosaurs
Jurassic World
Edelweiss Dragonborn flew over the ocean on a dragon named Avalon. They were followed by four other young Dragons. They were on their way to a tropical island for a camping trip.
Edelweiss was a young woman. She had long black hair pulled back into a braid, she had a beautiful round face, tan skin, emerald green eyes, large ears, and a large chest. She wore black pants, a blue tank top, brown boots, and a black cowboy hat. She had a shiny revolver gun strapped to her hip.
Avalon was the alpha of the small group. She was teal green, with purple horns, eyes, spines, claws, and lavender eyes. She wore a shiny silver breastplate with amethyst stones embedded into it, and peacock feathers carved into the metal, and she had a head plate that matched. Her body, legs, neck, and tail were very slender, like a cheetah. Her lizard-like head was very narrow and her wings were wider than her torso.
Apollo was Avalon's brother. He was blood red with gold horns, spines, claws, and eyes. He didn't wear any jewelry, just a red saddle on his back. Both he and his sister were born with magic like their mother Aurora.
Eider was an orphaned dragon that Apollo and Avalon had met when they were young Dragonets. He was violet purple with black horns, spins, and claws. His eyes were a rich amber gold, and his venomous teeth were black. He was the largest Dragon of the group, as big as a draft horse and ten times as strong. He wore a black saddle on his back with silver trim.
The other two Dragons were brother and sister. Black Widow was the sister. She was jet black with red eyes and a red hour glass shape on her forehead. She had the body and legs of a panther, and a long tail that ended in a pair of webbed fins. Around her narrow head was a series of flaps, two of which looked like ears, and no horns. Like Eider, she too had black venomous teeth that she could retract into her gums. She wore a red and black saddle on her back.
Black Widow's young brother, Eclipse, looked similar. Except his tail didn't have fins on the end of it. He had a slightly shorter snout, and smaller body. His eyes were grape purple and he had a silver crescent curled around the right side of each eye. He wore a purple breastplate with a black sun in the center. His saddle was black and gold with the same insignia carved into the leather. Even though he was the smallest Dragon in the group, no bigger than a large pony, he was the fastest. He also had the most special hatching. He had hatched during a rare Solar Eclipse. The black sun was the first thing he ever saw when he cracked out of the egg.
The group soon approached the island. Edelweiss and Black Widow had come across the island several years ago. It had living, breathing Dinosaurs on it. When Edel and Black Widow had told their friends about their experience, Avalon and the other Dragons were very curious. They had wanted to check it out for years and see the Dinosaurs for themselves. The Dragons knew quiet a lot about them, except what most of their names were.
"So how did they make these Dinosaurs again?" asked Apollo.
"With sciencey stuff," said Edelweiss. "I dozed off through the explanation. The humans we were traveling with were in awe of the Dinosaurs, until the encountered the T Rex and Velociraptors. Then they were all like, 'oh it's too dangerous to have humans and Dinosaurs living in the same world',"
"There's too many dam humans in word anyway," said Eider. "I remember all the stories of when Dinosaurs dominated the planet. Earth was a lot healthier. There was no pollution, no wars, no endangered species."
"I agree," said Eclipse. "There are nice humans out there, but there are so many bad ones too. Dinosaurs, and Dragons, could get rid of the all the bad humans and keep the good ones."
"Why don't we worry about this later," said Avalon. "Lets find a place to camp." They picked up speed and got closer to the island. But as the flew over it, they paused.
"I thought you said the park here was shut down," Apollo said.
"It was when we left it," said Black Widow. "The Dinosaurs had eaten everyone, thus making it too dangerous for them."
"Well, it's not shut down anymore," said Avalon.
Blow them was a large amusement park, swarming with tourists. It was spread through out the island, with buildings and animal pens among the large trees and rocks. Monorails transported tourists into, out of, and around the park. Many of the buildings were restaurants, gift shops, and hotels. A large glass pyramid stood at the end of a long main street. But what the Dragons didn't see, were Dinosaurs. They suspected the Dinosaurs were scattered throughout the island.
"I guess the humans still own this place," said Black Widow.
"We should get a closer look," said Avalon. "Spread out." She put a cloaking spell on the group, that made them invisible to the humans but not the animals. The group separated, agreeing to meet back up on top of the glass pyramid at the end of the day.
Avalon and Edelweiss swooped low over the main plaza and streets. The smell of cooking meat and hot pastries filled the air. People packed the streets, many of them were children. Avalon flew over the main entrance. A sign over the wooden gates read; Jurassic World, in big blue letters.
"Jurassic World?" said Edelweiss. "Last time I was here they called it Jurassic Park."
"That was years ago," Avalon pointed out. "Since everything else about this place changed, it figures the name would too. Lets go find some Dinosaurs." She sped off and flew back over the plaza.
They flew passed the pyramid. Avalon spotted a animal pen, filled with trees and grass. She soared down into it and perched on a large tree branch. They looked down at a large T Rex snacking on a cow. Avalon was speechless.
"Wow, it is big," she said. The T Rex looked up, and stared directly at them. She growled and gnashed her teeth which were covered in gore. Avalon hissed back and flared her wings. Then the T Rex let out an Earth-shattering roar. When she closed her mouth again, Avalon roared back and shot her jade green fire into the air. The T Rex huffed, then grabbed her cow and stomped off.
"So Dragons used to be that big?" asked Edelweiss. "I mean all Dragons."
"Yes," said Avalon. "And bigger."
"She didn't eat us," said Edel.
"No, I saw in her mind," said Avalon. "She knows what I am." She spread her wings and took off again.
They circled around and watched the people below. They went farther into the island. They soon saw more Dinosaurs roaming about. A few of them were walking free without fences. There were several rides that allowed tourists to get closer to the animals. Avalon dove down and flew over a flock of Gallimimus that were running through a field. Avalon kept up with them. When they saw the Dragon, they scattered and ran into the trees. Avalon thought about hunting one, but decided to do so later with the group.
Avalon carried on over the forest. They saw more animal pens with high concrete walls and filled with trees. Employees in blue hard hats bustled around them. Suddenly Avalon heard loud screeching coming from one pen. She followed the sound to another animal pen. She circled it looking for the source of the sound. Edelweiss looked around as well. Just then a small pig scurried through the shrubs as fast as it could. On its heal were four Velociraptors, they were screeching and barking at each other. The biggest one in the front snapped her jaws at the pig. Avalon watched them in amazement.
"Velociraptors," said Edelwiess. "Four this time."
"I wonder if we can communicate," said Avalon.
"They seem busy," said Edelweiss.
"We'll follow them then," said Avalon. She took off after the raptors. They didn't see her. She flew higher so she could clear of the trees. She followed the raptors, who followed the pig.
"You think you can really talk to them?" asked Edelweiss
"Dragons and Dinosaurs were able to communicate back in the day," sad Avalon. "Our dialogue was the same."
"I wonder what these Dinosaurs are doing," said Edelweiss, looking down at the raptors.
"Hunting I think," said Avalon.
"If they were hunting they would have caught that pig by now," Edelweiss said.
Soon the raptors ran into an arena and came to a stop. The pig ran into a hole in the wall. An X shaped catwalk ran across the top. Avalon, Edelweiss, and all four raptors looked up at the man on the catwalk. The man had brown hair and mustache. He wore a blue shirt, jeans, and brown vest. He kept clicking something in his hands and speaking to the raptors, and they seemed to be listening to him. The man reached into a bucket and threw each raptor a dead rat, before dismissing them.
"Impressive," said Edelweiss. "Those raptors do what that man says."
"I see in their minds," said Avalon. "They consider him as their alpha. They know he's not a raptor, but they still trust him." She swooped down and landed beside the the arena. "See what you can find out from him. You take the lead here," Edelweiss dismounted. Avalon reached into a hidden pocket in her breastplate and pulled out a silver whistle. "Take this, call for me once you find out if this man is as trustworthy as these raptors claim." Edelweiss seemed surprised.
"But this is a dog whistle," she said. "You not my pet Avalon, you're my alpha."
"It's the only way I'll be able to hear you from far away," said Avalon. She spread her wings and took off. Edelweiss put the whistle in her pocket and went over to the gate of the arena. The raptors were moseying about. They didn't notice her at all. Suddenly the pig got loose and ran all over the arena. The raptors squealed with delight and chased it. One of the workers on top of the catwalk tried lassoing the pig. But the lasso grabbed the pig just as a raptor got it, and pulled the worker into the arena. Edelweiss ran from the gate and hid just as the trainer came running up to it, followed by two other men. The raptors charged at the worker, claws ready for the kill. The trainer ran into the arena, and planted himself between the worker and the raptors. They paused in their attack and looked at him. They snapped their jaws and clicked their claws, but they did not attack. The worker crawled out of the arena while the predators were distracted. The gate started to close and the trained back towards it, talking to the raptors the whole time. Then he ran out of the arena, before the raptors could get him. They shook themselves and walked off. The men left and Edelweiss went back to the gate and went back to watching the raptors. One of them suddenly walked by the gate and saw her. The raptor turned her head. Edelweiss recognized her as the lead raptor. She was light grey with blue stripes down her back and neck. She hissed, and Edelweiss hissed back. The raptor tilted her head and blinked her eyes. She snarled, and Edelweiss snarled back. Then the raptor let out a loud bark, which alerted her sisters. They came over to see what the commotion was about. There was a gray one, a green one, and another gray one with small black and white bands across her back and neck. They pushed and shoved to get a better view.
"Hey!" someone shouted. Edelweiss turned to see the trainer approaching her. "Park guests aren't allowed in this area. Now who are you?"
"I'm so sorry sir," Edelweiss said. "I was here on a camping trip, I got a bit lost. I heard commotion and came to investigate."
"What's your name?" the man asked sternly.
"Edelweiss, what is your name sir?" Edel asked.
"Owen," the man said. "Owen Grady."
"Are these your Dinosaurs Mr. Grady?" Edelweiss asked, pointing towards the raptors.
"Yes," Owen answered.
"They trust you?" asked Edelweiss. Owen nodded, looking Edelweiss up and down.
"You're not a park guest are you?" he asked.
"No sir," said Edelweiss. "As I said I'm here on a camping trip. I didn't know there was a park here."
"Not a great place for camping," Owen said. "There's a lot of dangerous animals."
"I'm not afraid of the animals Mr. Grady," said Edelweiss.
"You should get back where you belong," Owen said. "This area's restricted."
"Yes sir," said Edelweiss. She pulled out the whistle and walked away from the gate. She blew the whistle. Though the sound was too faint for human ears, the raptors squealed in discomfort. A few minuets later Avalon soared over the clearing, announcing her arrival with a roar. She had lifted her cloaking spell, and had made her decorations vanish. The raptors scattered as Avalon landed next to Edelweiss. Owen was very surprised.
"What is that?" he asked.
"That is a Dragon Mr. Grady," said Edelweiss. "Her name is Avalon."
"A Dragon?" said Owen. "I thought there was no such thing."
"They once ruled the Earth along side the Dinosaurs, and now there are only five left in the world Mr. Grady," said Edelweiss. "The other four are exploring the island for a campsite." Avalon came up behind her, aware that Owen was watching her.
"I think I might know a place," Owen said. He walked over to a motorcycle. He mounted it and started it up. Edelweiss mounted Avalon. They took off and followed the motorcycle, bidding the raptors farewell.
