I pondered about love while a cigarette dangled seemingly carelessly from my lips.

I approached the old, rusty swing in the park and daintily sat myself down.

Fall
It was autumn, the season of brightly colored leaves falling, swaying from side to side.

Wind
I watched as the wind carried a few red maple leaves away.

Smile
I worked up a wistful smile as memories attacked my mercilessly.

Memories
Memories of such good times, such vibrant energy.

Eyes
I closed my eyes.

Imagine
Tried to imagine.

Dance
I tried to imagine us dancing.

Puddles
Dancing through the puddles.

Singing
Singing our lungs out.

Music
Without music, without accompaniment.

Stars
Just us, waltzing under the stars.

Dream
I dreamed of us.

Hug
I could see us hugging, cuddling.

Wait
I waited in vain, knowing he was gone for good.

Hopeless
Because, after all, it was hopeless.

Conflict
Because this was the one conflict that cannot be mended.

Chance
No more second chances, no more opportunities to make it up.

Candle
No amount of candles and kisses can salvage this.

I pulled out our—no, my—diary out, throwing in up in the air, watching it as the wind carried it away, just like the wind carried the leaves away.

I didn't—I still don't—hate him, because under all these conflicting emotions, I still loved him.

Somewhere far away, maybe in my own head, the clock struck midnight.
