This really isn't supposed to be a replacement to the gospel section of the new testament. It is simply a work of FICTION that I thought might be entertaining. Please don't think any of this is what really happened. If you want that, then go read the book of Matthew and the book of Luke.

Joseph looked out at the snow-covered pastures located outside his bedroom window, thinking about the news he had just received. He had found out, only hours ago that Mary was pregnant. She had told him it was of the Holy Spirit; that she was still a virgin. This was impossible, however, so obviously, Mary was lying to him. Though he loved Mary with every fiber of his being, he decided that it would be best to cancel their marriage. Of course, he was an honorable man, so he would do it discretely. Joseph could not believe that Mary really could have done something as dishonorable as lying with a man before marriage. He knew Mary to be a good woman. She was the most trustworthy person in the entire world. The only woman he had ever loved had betrayed him, and that broke his heart. All this news was giving him a headache. Before he made any rash decisions, he thought it prudent to sleep on it; deal with all this tomorrow, when he could think clearer.

-----

"Joseph."

Something stirred within him; he knew this was no dream. This was a message from God, using an angel as courier.

"Joseph, Son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, fro that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you will call his name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

-----

Joseph woke with a jolt. Of course! It made sense now. It was perfectly logical that Mary would be chosen to carry such an important Child. She was the most innocent girl in the world. How could he not see it before? How could he not believe a girl of such honesty? It would not surprise him if Mary never wanted to speak to him again, let alone marry him.

It was just breaking dawn. He had to go tell Mary of his "dream" and find out if she still would accept his hand in marriage. He ran as quickly as his legs would carry him through the January snow. Since the two did not live far from each other, it did not take long for Joseph's fist to find her door and frantically begin pounding on it. A confused looking Mary came to the door, finding Joseph smiling, panting, and sweating.

"Joseph?" she asked, "What is going on?"

He gathered both of her hands in his own and said between gasps, "I have just received a message from an angel of the Lord. This angel told me that the baby growing inside you is of the Holy Spirit," Joseph paused a moment taking a more serious tone. "Mary, I'm sorry I did not believe you. I'm sorry fro ever doubting you virtue. I understand if you do not want to be my wife after the way I accused you yesterday, but I would love to be your husband."

Joseph was taken by surprise when Mary threw her arms around his torso. It took but a few seconds to respond in kind. After a moment, Mary whispered, "Of course, you fool." Then looked up into Joseph's eyes, "You are the one I love, the only one I will ever love, and I could not live in this world if I was not bonded to you in marriage."

Joseph laid a hand on Mary's cheek. "I love you so much," he said, looking his soul mate in the eyes; he could practically see into her soul there.

Caught up in the moment, Joseph briefly placed a kiss, soft as a summer's breeze, on Mary's lips. He withdrew his lips from hers, but kept their foreheads pressed together.

"I must go," Joseph breathed. "I will see you tomorrow. I will be the handsome one at the alter." They both smiled at this.

Giving her a final kiss on the cheek, Joseph bid her farewell. This was going to be a good day.
