"Awww," Giselle cried as she felt the warm sun kiss her cheeks, "what a lovely day." Today was her day off from work and she was strolling around at Central Park with Robert. The park made this backwoods girl feel relieved from life in the city.
As she went over the bridge she began thinking about her forest friends back home. She was planning to visit them in a few months on a vacation her and Robert were planning. However, she was missing them dearly and wished she could see them sooner. Robert and Giselle approached the woodsy part of the park.
Deep within the woods emanated the sound of a baby crying. Or was it a baby crying? The sound of a baby turned to the sound of a dog moaning. "Do you here that?" said Giselle as she pulled Robert off the path, "it sounds like an animal is in trouble! Something terrible has happened! I got go and check it out!" Meanwhile this creature cried distressingly. "Poor little thing," she thought to herself, "I hope its okay". "You go, I have to answer this…its from work! Just look at it. Don't touch anything. Don't get in trouble,"said Robert.
Giselle began to cut through the forest. As Giselle made her way through the rocks and the bushes she finally was found what was crying. "Oh my goodness!" she cried. There, panicked, alone and vulnerable clinging against a tree were two baby raccoons. How distressing! They had fallen out of their nests and were now helplessly to a little tree screaming for their mother. "Oh poor little guys," said Giselle as she rushed to their side. Giselle picked them up and cradled them in her arms. "Shhh," she said soothingly, "don't be afraid! I am here to help you!" Giselle remembered Lily, her raccoon friend in Andalasia. She was such a sweet critter and enjoyed tea and cakes and knitting infront of the fire. Petting the babies, Giselle found their nests. It was a hole withing arms reach. "There, there little ones, Giselle will help you." she said as she lifted the babies back in there hole. The babies stopped crying. They looked relieved and snuggled together on top of the leaves. Giselle stroked their furry backs as she sang "Hush little baby don't you cry…Giselles gonna sing you a lullaby and if that lullaby doesn't YEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!"
A terrible pain shot through Giselles leg. Looking down she saw the mother raccoon biting her ankle. Apparently the mother snuck up on her without her noticing. Giselle screamed and tried to get away. "Giselle!" Robert cried, rushing to see what happened to his wife. Giselle was able to kick the racoon out of the way and run out of the woods to Robert. Giselle sat down on the pavement clutching her ankle.
"What happened?" cried an alarmed Robert. "A racoon bit me," she wailed, "I was singing to her babies…I didn't even do anything! Why was she so mean? She didn't even know me…"
"Oh Giselle, racoons are not like they are in andalaisa…" said Robert bending down to see her ankle. "Well, it was only two bites and its not bleeding that much," Giselle sighed, releived.
"Oh no, Giselle…we're going straight to the emergency room!"
"Why? My ankle is okay."
"Anyone who gets bit by a wild animal must go straight to the emergency room! There is a disease here that spreads amongst mammals…you've probasbly never heard of it…but it is deadly if untreated."
"What is it?"
"Rabies."
Later in the hospital….
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
YEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Robert flinched each time Giselle yelled. Rabies vaccinations were not fun.
