"Canaan! Canaan! Look at this!" Maria cried in delight as she dropped down in front of a vendor's stand.
It was a nice and sunny day out, not a cloud in the sky except for one, but that didn't matter! Because today was a special day.
It was a day she got to spend with Canaan.
And those days were few and far in between… So she was determined to make the most of it!
"What is it?" Canaan questioned with a puzzled look on her face. She reached out to touch the strange object Maria was showing her. "It has feathers…" She murmured to herself.
"Yes it does!" Maria jumped up with a grin and held up the piece with purpose. "It's called a dream catcher! It's said that if you hang this over you bed at night, it will catch all of your bad dreams, hence the name. Cool, huh?" She smiled down at Canaan."
"Uh, Miss? You're going to have to put that down…"
Maria blinked in surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry! I completely forgot what I was doing."
Canaan watched as Maria gently placed the so-called dream catcher back on the table. She frowned at it.
"I want one."
"Hmm? What did you say, Canaan?"
Canaan looked up at her. "Can we get one?"
"Yes, of course." Maria said, although she was a bit caught off guard. Canaan usually wasn't one for the material. Since she was always fighting someone else's battle and all.
Maria paid the vendor and turned only to find her friend disappeared.
"Canaan?"
She looked around. There were many people in the vicinity, but not the one she wished to see most. "Canaan? Where are you?" She shoved her way through the crowd, desperately. "Canaan? Canaan!"
The call echoed through the young girl's ears, but she forced up a wall to it. Canaan sat on top of the roof, head held in shame. But, she had something she had to do, immediately. She placed a kiss on the dream catcher and murmured, "I'm sorry."
Later that night, Maria woke to find a feathery object brushing against her forehead. She cried when she realized what it was.
