The squid has been there since Albus was a kid. The romance starts in his seventh year when it comes out of the lake to grace him with its presence. It touches his hand and he feels somewhat complete. Over the years after that chance encounter he has done magic on himself to let himself breathe underwater and talk to it. There's a spell for it called, Fisium Speakio. When you cast it you can speak to underwater life. When he gets hired he finds it reaching out to him. The squid remembers him and touches him again. There are more encounters with it before he finally tells it how he feels. It feels the same. Headmaster Dippet finds out and forbids them to see each other again. They sneak meetings together. Finally when he is appointed Headmaster there is nothing holding them and their love back. Until he dies. The end (:
