It was after highschool, on a warm spring day, the sun shining bright. John and Ahab were walking home, talking about the funny things that happened in their classes when John noticed an empty basketball court and a lone basketball. A wide grin spread across John's face as a clever thought crossed his mind.

"Ey Ahab." John abruptly stopped walking.

"Huh?" Ahab turned around, snapping out of his daze of someone messing up in chemistry.

"I bet you can't get a three pointer."

"I-I bet I can!" Ahab's cheeks flared in determination as he dropped his bag on the floor and stomped over to the basket ball, muttering about how John is always undermining him and he'll show him once in for all.

John suppressed a laugh as he picked up Ahab's backpack and followed him to the three-point line. Ahab dribbled the ball as he took some deep breaths.

John puffed out air and began to tap his feet. "Any moment now."

"Shut up, I'm concentrating!" Ahab's cheeks flared again making John brake out into a small fir of laughter.

"Okay, okay go." John coughed out the rest of his laugh into his fist.

Ahab looked up at the net as he dribbled the ball.

Ahab twisted his body, the ball lowering with his entire arm. He swung his arm over his head as his whole body twisted around a grunt escaping him. John and Ahab watched the ball fly into the air with increadable swiftness and power.

It slammed into the backboard, the loudest crack emitted from it. Both John and Ahab flinched at the loud, echoing sound. The ball, stuck in the middle of the backboard, a spiderweb of shattered whatever circling around the basketball.

"What just happened?"

"Aw shit..."

John roughly shoved Ahab's bag into his arms as began to hop on his feet as a light turned on in one of the town houses across the street.

"Run." John leaped from his spot into a mad dash.

"Ah! Wait!" Ahab's ponytail whipped around as he also, leaped into a rapid sprint after his brother.

"WHAT THE HELL?" A local man's voice was heard in the background

"JOOOOOOOOHNNNN!" Ahab screamed out as he felt his face flush and his eyes begin to water.
