Jeanne d'Arc was neither tall nor imposing, looking rather like the French equivalent of the girl next door, but with her bright armor, her long, strawberry blonde hair streaming in the breeze, and the fire of faith in her blue-green gaze, she bore the weight of authority.
She studied the first in a long line of new recruits for the army that would free France from the English yoke, and turned to the tall, dark knight next to her.
Surely this is a woman? the Maid of Orleans asked.
Why not? the other replied. You inspire all women by your example.
Jeanne spoke to the woman, a thin, wiry blonde with a wild look in her eyes. You remind me of someone I once knew, she said. Are you from Cirra?
The recruit shook her head. Cirra? No. De Bergerac.
