A/N: This is a 'what if?' fic i.e. what if Becker and Sarah got stranded in the cretaceous. It's a prequel (once removed) to my other fic 'stranger things'. I've had this for a long time – a really long time fredbassett probably doesn't even remember betaing this for me!!! I've changed some stuff around so if you spot any mistakes they're my fault.

"Well, isn't this a cosy little cave you two have found for yourselves," Helen Cutter said looking around.

Becker took a step forward, his gun trained her but she wasn't intimidated.

"I'm not here to fight," Helen declared.

"Then why are you here?" Sarah asked angrily, the pain of Cutter's death still with her.

"I have a proposition for you."

"Which is?" Becker asked.

"There are some hieroglyphs that could have something to do with anomalies. I need a second opinion on them." Helen's glance flicked from Becker to Sarah.

"So you want me to take a look?"

"Yes."

"What's in it for us?"

Becker looked at her disbelief. "You're not seriously considering it?"

Sarah didn't say anything.

"I'll get you back home safely," Helen answered, ignoring him.

"Sarah don't be stupid! Danny, Connor and Abby will find us."

Helen scoffed. "Please, they're still trying to work out what time period you're stuck in. My way you get home faster."

Sarah considered it. "Why me?"

"Well, we'd have to go to Ancient Egypt to read it – those hieroglyphs don't survive to the present day and it's not like I'm bringing anyone from our time with me think of all those awkward questions I'd have to answer."

"There's no way-" Becker started saying before Sarah interrupted him

"It's just a translation?"

Helen nodded. "After that I'll send you home. You can trust me."

"Just like Nick trusted you while you were having an affair with Stephen, or the way Stephen trusted you when you were setting up that future predator army with Leek?" Becker stated. "I've done my research on you since your last visit to the ARC."

The mention of Stephen and Nick clearly stung her. "How is security at the ARC? Still lax? After all I've managed to get past it twice." She held up her hand to stop Becker from speaking.

"Actually I don't care and I really don't like having guns pointed at me."

Becker felt cold metal press into his back. He had been so focussed on Helen, it hadn't occurred to him that there would be someone creeping up behind him. Glancing over his shoulder he saw one of Helen's clones shoving a gun in his back.

"You didn't think I'd come alone did you?" she gloated. "Put your gun on the ground."

He hesitated.

"I'm not asking again."

He heard the gun behind him being cocked.

"Becker, just do it," Sarah pleaded.

Knowing that he couldn't protect Sarah if he was dead, he reluctantly he put his gun on the floor.

"Good boy," Helen mocked him, Becker gritted his teeth in anger - he hated feeling helpless. Helen looked at the clone "Knock him out."

The last thing he heard was Sarah's voice shouting, 'Wait!'

Sarah looked down at his unconscious body in dismay, then glared at Helen who gave her an infuriating grin in return.

"So Dr Page, do we have a deal?"
