LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
Sounds of laughter trickled in through the open patio door. Warrick could look out the window and see Sara and their daughter, Ella Marie, playing. Sara and Warrick had gotten Ella the playhouse last Christmas. Inside the playhouse was every kind of thing a little girl needed to escape into a fantasy world of dress up. At the moment, Ella had gotten her mommy to wear a fluffy hot pink boa and a sparkly tiara. Sara was laughing. Warrick loved to hear her laughing. It was like music to his ears.
Warrick walked out and sat down in one of the chairs on the patio. Warrick smiled at how beautiful his life seemed now. He never imagined it could be like this. When Ella realized her daddy was there, she ran over to him, "Daddy, Daddy, come to my tea party."
"Yeah, honey, come on over," Sara teased him.
"Anything for my two favorite girls." Warrick replied. He got up and walked over to the table, which had been moved out of the playhouse. While Ella pretended to pour the tea, Warrick took Sara's hand and kissed it as he mouthed the words, "I love you."
"I love you, too." Sara responded her eyes sparkling.
Ella started talking. "Do you know what Ms. Carrie did today?"
"What baby? What did Ms. Carrie do today?" Warrick asked.
""Well, first she read a book that was so funny. A wolf went to a farm to eat the animals. He saw them reading and he wanted to do it too. So he went to school and learned how. They all lived happily ever after. The end." Ella paused before continuing. "And then at snack time this afternoon, we were supposed to have watermelon. Jake was the door holder. Ms. Carrie was holding the watermelon as we went out the door. Then, guess what? She realized there was a bug on it and she dropped the watermelon. Watermelon splooshed out everywhere. Everyone was laughing, even Ms. Carrie. "We had to have animal crackers instead."
"But, can you believe it, Mommy? A little bitty bug scared her. Bugs are cool!" Warrick and Sara both laughed. Spending time with Uncle Gil had its advantages. Ella, while always a princess, was truly fearless of any critter that existed.
"How about we go inside and have some dinner and maybe Daddy will take us for ice cream later?" Sara said.
"Okay, Mommy". Warrick picked up his littlest princess and carried her inside. Sara watched the two of them and thought to herself how beautiful life could be. He stuck his head out the door. "You coming, sweetheart?"
Sara went inside and the family ate dinner together. Warrick had cooked dinner and it was delicious. After dinner, he did treat Sara and Ella to ice cream. When they returned home, Sara gave Ella her bath and got her dressed for bed. "I love you, Mommy."
"Ella, I love you too. I love you more than anything." Sara said as she picked her up and hugged her. Ella ran into the living room where Warrick was playing the piano. "Mommy said you would play my song, Daddy."
"Oh, she did?" He replied as he smiled at Sara. Sara sat down on the couch and Ella crawled into her lap as Warrick started playing 'Ella's Song.' Warrick had written it the night she was born. When he was done, he picked Ella up from Sara's arms where she had snuggled all warm and cozy. He carried her to her bedroom and sat down in the rocking chair. As he started reading, she nestled into his arms as he rocked. Before too long, she had fallen asleep. Sara peeked in when she hadn't heard anything. Warrick was asleep too, smiling as he held the sleeping Ella. Sara smiled and thought "Life is beautiful."
