Under The Mistletoe
"Hey Sam." Carly said, greeting her friend. They were at the forest, and now it was 22nd of December, so it was near Christmas. It was snowing and Sam and Carly was wearing their winter outfits.
"Hey." Sam said, looking around. She sat down, leaning on to a tree. She saw a boy sitting near the frozen lake, cutting paper into smaller parts.
"That's Freddie Benson," Carly said, sitting next to her as she saw Sam looking at him.
"I know." Sam said, rubbing her face with her hands, which is covered with gloves.
"He's a loner." Carly stated, looking at him with full pity.
"No he's not," Sam said. "How would you know?"
"He has no friends."
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Of course he does."
Carly shook her head. "Go ask him then."
"Uhh," Sam said. "Never mind."
It was awkward silence until Sam saw Freddie standing up, about to leave. Sam stood up too, ignoring the stare of Carly.
When Sam was already next to him, Freddie didn't even bother looking at her. Freddie didn't walk away, but he ignored her.
"Hey." Sam said, hoping to get his attention.
Freddie was silent. He kept walking, and Sam wondered where was he going.
"So what's your name?"
Freddie looked at her, with his chocolate eyes. Sam realized how his hair was so brown, even browner than Carly's, and it seems to match his eyes.
"...F-Fred," He said, seeming to struggle. "Freddie."
"I'm Sam. Where you going?"
"N-no where."
Sam giggled. "You're lying."
"Well what do you want me to say?" Freddie asked sharply. Sam was startled and she stared at him. They were now under a tree, and above, Sam realized there was a mistletoe.
"Look up." Sam said.
Freddie looked up and looked horrified. "Wh-wha is th-that?"
"A mistletoe," Sam said dumbly. "We have to kiss."
"No."
"Why not?"
"I don't even know you. Go away."
Freddie walked away, and even though Sam wanted to follow him, she didn't. She didn't want any problems caused anymore.
Sam sighed and went back to the place Carly was sitting.
"Sam," She said in a stern voice. "Why did you do that to him?"
"Do what?" Sam asked as she sat down next to Carly.
"Don't you know?"
"Know what?"
"He has cancer."
Sam stared at Carly. "That's impossible."
"I wanted to tell you at first, but I didn't want to anyways," Carly said. "He just doesn't want any friends."
"Oh." Sam said as she watched him walk away. He was far, but Sam was capable of watching him. So that's the problem, Sam thought. He has cancer. No wonder he doesn't want friends.
