a mad girl's love song

(I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.

(I think I made you up inside my head.))

She tells them to spread out one night in Tartarus, despite the voice of reason arguing in her head. They have spent a fair amount of time on the floor and only a few Shadows can be heard moaning and moving about in the distance. The party sends her worried looks, hesitant, but she makes a pretense of fixing her skirt and waves them on. I am the leader, the near-silence seems to say. These are my orders.

(Leave me, is what they hear. They do not wander too far off.)

She waits until she cannot hear their footsteps anymore, or their labored breathing, a small and not so frail girl standing alone in the monsters' lair. She waits until the beating of her heart is the only thing audible in the stale air.

Fuuka watches silently, respectfully, from somewhere below and turns her attention away.

The walls drip with blood and monster guts and multi colored patterns that make her eyes ache. She stares straight ahead into the darkness and brings her Evoker to her head. The cold steel is frightfully familiar and comfortable as it presses against the skin of her temple; her fingers curl around the trigger: lightly, steady.

"Thanatos," she calls out, and presses it.

A moment of LSD walls swirling around her passes and nothing appears. She smiles into the unseen and presses again.

Thanatos.

Thanatos.

Thanatos.

Her well trained hand begins to shake from something other than exhaustion, red eyes staring deeper into the tower of despair. "Thanatos," she says and the smile on her face twitches. The gun clicks. All is silent in her head as the deities watch, waiting.

An empty hole in her mind remains, carved out by bloodthirst and coffins and possessive claws.

"Ryoji," Minako whispers, her knuckles turning white from the sheer force she is putting onto the Evoker. The silence does not answer her.

The gun continues to click.
