Eric saw that his little brother was frustrated. He came over and sat down next to him.

"Hey Cory," he said, "What's on your mind?"

"Topanga's mad at me," Cory explained.

"Why," Eric asked.

"Because she and Sean had a fight and I sided with Sean resulting in her ignoring me anyway and she hasn't talked to me since Wednesday"

Eric raised an eyebrow.

"You sided with Sean?"

"Well… yeah," Cory said

"In other words you sided against Topanga!"

"Well yeah but she ignored me anyway"

"CORY! YOU NEVER SIDE AGAINST YOUR GIRLFRIEND."

Cory rubbed his eyes. He had a headache as it was and his brother's yelling wasn't making it any better.

"But Sean was sort of right," Cory said.

"Do you remember my friend Patrick," Eric asked

"He's pretty hard to forget," Cory said

"Well he had a girlfriend named Nina. She was really perfect for him. She was sweet and funny and smart and loving-"

"You mean everything Topanga is to me," Cory said letting a small tear escape his eye.

Eric nodded.

"Well anyway Nina and this other guy got into a fight and the other guy was absolutely in the right. Patrick however sided with Nina"

"Why? If the other guy was in the right and Nina was in the wrong why wouldn't he side with the other guy?"

"Because," Eric said, "he wasn't an idiot. When you sided with Sean you hurt Topanga's feelings."

Cory had never thought of it like that.

"Do you even know the whole story?"

"I know what Sean told me," Cory said weakly.

"Wait a minute," Eric said, "You didn't even get Topanga's side of the story?"

"Um… no," Cory admitted, "I guess I wasn't a very good boyfriend to her huh?"

"Ya think! You really should go and apologize to her"

Topanga was outside in the park when Cory came over.

"We need to talk," he said.

"I'm not doing what you told me," Topanga replied, "I wasn't wrong"

"No you weren't," Cory said softly, "I was"

Topanga looked at him.

"My first mistake," he said, "was not getting your side of the story. My second mistake was siding against you."

"Cory," Topanga said, "when I'm wrong I don't mind being told I'm wrong but I wasn't wrong in this case. Sean started the fight"

Cory listened as Topanga told him what had happened. He made a promise to himself and to her that he would talk with Sean.

"Thank you," Topanga said.

That night Sean's phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Sean?"

"Hey Cory"

"Why didn't you tell me what really happened between you and Topanga?"

He winced.

"I dunno," he said

"You should have told me the truth," Cory said, "and what I said to Topanga, yeah that applies to you now"

"But !"

"Sean you're still my best friend but you don't come between my boyfriend and I. It won't work"

"Fine," said Sean and hung up.
