It was a normal day. Peridot was marathoning camp pining hearts, and Lapis was watching with her. This had become their daily routine, wake up, make a sculpture, watch CPH, hang with Steven, and go to bed. It wasn't much but it was nice to Peridot, it filled her with a purpose. Peridots were made for technological reasons, especially era2 Peridots. She was a technician on Homeworld. She wasn't quite sure what Lapis Lazulis were though. They didn't make them anymore, something about population control. What Peridot did know was that Lapis was an era1 gem and very, very powerful. She once asked Pearl what they were for back on Homeworld; She got a very embarrassed reply in response. Pearl said that she would tell her in a few decades.
"But…What…Why?" Peridot stammered. Pearl gave in when she saw the look of utter confusion on Peridot's face. Sigh, she will find out sooner or later. "Do you really want to know Peridot?" Peridot shook her head vigorously. "Well, you see Peridot. Oh how do I put this? Okay you know what the kindergartens are for correct? Well we didn't always have them." Peridot, confused, asked, "What do you mean? I thought all gems were made in the Kindergartens."
Pearl pinched the bridge of her nose. "Yes, I know that you think that. The Diamonds thought it were best if we started building them. You see certain gems can reproduce. The only ones capable of producing viable and useful offspring though, were the gems involved in the court. That would be gems such as sapphires, pearls, emeralds, lapis lazulis, and topaz. The only other gems able to reproduce were quartz warrior gems and the diamonds themselves. Lazulis, however, were the fastest breeders so the Diamonds decided that a restriction must be placed in order to maintain a healthy population. T-Th-They poofed all the lapis lazulis and made them into tools." "Is that what happened to Lapis, Pearl?", Peridot asked, mortified that her Diamond, any Diamond would do something like that.
"Yes, Peridot, that is what happened to Lapis. She was made into a mirror that could show anything it saw from the past. Steven wanted to learn so I let him use it. The mirror wouldn't work so we thought nothing of letting Steven take it out and about. Steven being the sweet child he is though got Lapis to speak to him as if she were still on the physical plane. She harbored hatred for the Crystal Gems for not letting her out. In all honesty we didn't know that she still had a conscience mind or was even capable of reforming, that is why we didn't take her out."
Looking back now it seems that Lapis has changed since I asked Pearl that. Hmm I wonder what hap… PEARL! She told Lapis I asked! Ohhh when I get my hands on that clod! "PEARL! I got a bone to pick with you!", Peridot screamed at the top of her non existent lungs.
Oh what does she want now?, thought Pearl. "Yes Peridot? What is it this time?" " Like you don't know you clod! You told Lazuli what I asked you! Why?", Peridot whimpered.
"Because I love you Peridot."
Oooo cliffhanger! Happy new year guys! I'd first like to say that my Pearlnet fanfic is currently on hiatus due to writer's block on that particular pairing. Second, on my new year's resolution list, number two is to start updating more frequently this year of 2017!
