The elevator doors slid closed and Mary glanced towards Marshall, a shadow of a smile on her lips.

"What do you think Stan is doing to him?"

Marshall's nose wrinkled up in obvious distaste of the federal agent. "With Stan……It could be anything."

Mary leaned her head back against the elevator wall and closed her eyes as she listened to the elevator ding with each floor they descended. She tensed for a second and then relaxed as Marshall put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close, a moment later her head rested comfortably on his shoulder.

The elevator dinged at the ground floor, Mary took a deep breath, opened her eyes and followed Marshall out of the elevator and to his car.

Marshall shot out and around Mary, "Here let me get that for you." He grabbed the car door, unlocked it and swung it open.

Mary shot him an annoyed look, "My hands work just fine, Marshall."

"Of course they do." There was a brief stare down before Mary relented and got into the car.

Fifteen minutes later Marshall pulled the car up in front of Mary's house, a quick look around showed the house to be dark and unoccupied. "I expected the FBI to be swarming the place." Mary spoke in a dull tone, her arm reaching towards the door handle.

"They were here earlier, spoke with your sister," Marshall ignored the way his partner's shoulder's tensed at the mention of her sister. "I'm sure they'll be back tomorrow to hound you."

Mary turned a fake smile towards him, "I can't wait."

The two of them stared at each other for a moment.

Marshall raised a hand and carefully brushed a stray hair out of her face; Mary slid her head to the side and grabbed Marshall's hand before he could move it away.

Their eyes locked again and Marshall leaned across the seat and paused briefly, inches away from Mary's face, as if asking for permission to continue.

Mary studied her partner's handsome face, her best friend, one of the only people she could trust these days and leaned forward slightly, closing her eyes as her lips connected with Marshall's.

The kiss lasted only a few seconds as they both pulled away, chuckling slightly to break the tension in the air.

Mary took a deep breath, "Well that was interesting." She reached her left hand over and grabbed the door handle, opening the door and releasing the cool night air into the stuffy car.

Not wanting to lose the moment that he had waited so long for Marshall grabbed her arm, "Mary?" he looked towards her with hopeful eyes.

She smiled as her partner said her name, "I have a lot to think about, Marshall. I just need some time."

He smiled and nodded his head, "Take all the time you need, partner."

He loosened his grip on her arm and let her pull away, "Call me if you need me." He called before she closed the door.

She waved at him and then turned around and walked slowly towards the house. He watched her disappear inside, a few lights pop on and then the glow from the television through the curtained windows.

A grin on his face, he put the car in gear, only one thought on his mind as he pulled away. 'There is definitely something about that woman.'
