A/N: I know it's past New Year's Eve but I got this idea today and had to write it so... I think we all wish this could've happened. Like really.
Midnight
Five minutes to midnight found Felicity Smoak's apartment to be completely silent, save for the sound of running water that emanated from the bathroom in her bedroom. Even after some time she still wasn't quite used to arriving home at such reasonable hours, not after working for a superhero, and because of this, she tended to stay at the office later than necessary to keep herself busy. Especially on night's like this–New Year's Eve. Midnight would mark a new year, but the year without her boss and close friend made it far less exciting than it might have been for everybody else. Because of this, she was showering rather than sitting in anxious excitement on her couch, watching the television as she–along with everybody else in her (un)fair city–waited for the iconic ball to drop. For her, though, it felt like the obnoxious ball had already dropped on her life weeks back, crushing everything in its plummet.
Felicity was just stepping out of her shower and pulling a towel around herself when her landline began to ring, shattering the quiet sanctuary of the apartment. Startled, she hastily scrambled to reach her phone on the opposite side of the room, on the night table beside her bed. 11:57. "Hello?" Felicity managed to eek out, freezing in her towel. The cold air of her bedroom clung to every bit of her exposed skin and she was having trouble keeping her shivers in check. "Felicity! It's John." He took a breath, of which took obvious effort because it sounded as though he wanted to blurt his news out without breathing at all.
"They found him."
11:58.
"Felicity, did you hear me?" Yes. But to be honest, she wasn't quite sure that what she was hearing was reality.
"I heard what you said," she told him, after a pregnant pause. If it was minutes or milliseconds, she couldn't say.
Midnight.
"They found him."
