Disclaimer: I don't own them. Wish I did

I just recently watched "Sunday" again (I still cry at the end) and it occurred to me when McKay was beating himself up for not going fishing that it would have worse if he had gone. Suppose he'd had a talk with Doctor Heightmeyer...

After Sunday

Rodney sat quietly with his head down.

"Doctor McKay ?" Kate Heightmeyer said as she came in and sat down.

Rodney looked up at her. "It's tearing me apart," he said. "If I'd only gone fishing. Carson would be alive."

"And a lot of other people would be dead."

"What ? Anyone could've removed that tumor. It didn't have to be Carson."

"But not everyone could do what you did, Rodney."

"Excuse me ?"

"There is no one else in the city who could have worked out what that machine did in time. If you hadn't identified the problem then Doctor Watson would have exploded either in the OR which would have killed several doctors and nurses or in the recovery room which would have killed whoever else was in there."

Rodney looked at her, thinking it through.

"Carson wouldn't have wanted other people to die in his place," Kate said. "Would he."

"No," Rodney said looking down. "No he wouldn't."

"Rodney. Only time will help to heal this. But you can't blame yourself for what happened. It would have been much worse if you had gone fishing."

"Thank you," Rodney said looking up at her. "I mean that I'm not just saying it."

"I know Rodney. I know."

oOo

Just a little something I had to get out of my head.
