'Dear Evans- Lily,

Okay so I know you hate me, despise me and can't stand me but I just can't stand not letting you know this.

I, James Potter, love you. I love the way your hair sits so perfectly, shining auburn in the sun. I love the way your emerald eyes sparkle when you shout at me. I love the way you walk away from me and glare back at me. I love the way you get angry at me and how your face looks beautiful even when you scream at me. I love the way you say Potter and…. I'm going to stop now because there are thousands of things I could write that I love about you. If you'd give me one chance to show you them, I'd be forever in your debt. And if you don't want to, I'll send you a letter everyday for the rest of your life telling you one thing that I love about you. I hope you live till you are 100000000. I'll need all that time and more.

Potter.

Oh and PS, Lily Potter sounds good ;)'

James walked to the owlery at seven in the morning and told his owl to give the letter to Evans at breakfast. The bird chirped and flew out. He walked back to the common room. He was up early for a Saturday morning and decided to go over Quidditch strategies. At half past eight, Sirius, Peter and Remus appeared sleepily to the common room. Many other students were making their way to the Hall. James stood up and grinned.

'Did you…?' Sirius and Remus started.

He nodded, grinning. Evans had just left for the hall with Mary. When they arrived they had to sit next to Lily and Mary. James diagonally across from Lily couldn't help grinning at her. She caught his eye and he swore he saw her smile a little bit. He chewed on his toast and pretended to be interested in the conversation at the table. A few minutes later he heard the swooping of wings and the post arrived. Lily almost jumped as the letter hit her plate. She stared at the owl and almost recognised it. The Marauders and Mary watched her open it.

She read carefully and James added the way she concentrated on something to his list of attributes about her. She smiled faintly then looked over at him. Her eyes welled up then she jumped out of her seat and ran out of the Great Hall.

'So that went well…' Sirius smirked. James glared at him and took off after Lily.

She was walking down the grounds quickly.

'Evans? Evans?' He shouted. He ran after her. 'EVANS? Lily…'

She turned around. She was crying.

'I'm so sorry James, I've been horrible to you. Your letter… I'm sorry. The truth is… I love you too…I've been in love with you for a year but I never realised!'

'And what's love without hate?' He grinned pulling her towards him. He slowly pressed his lips to hers. He felt a smile creep onto her lips.

And that is how, James Potter won Lily Evans.
