The Sky is Crying

He watched, silently, as the dominoes fell, pushing each other over in an attempt to knock over the Kira-monster standing at the edge, just as he had watched – silent spectator standing on the sidewalks of life – as the real L had lost to the actual Kira. How, despite all his efforts, his predecessor had died before being able to unmask Kira.
The dominoes stop falling, a few steps away from the toy monster. So this is how it ends, he thinks, just a few steps short of kira.
In a corner of the room lies a puzzle. Its pieces lie scattered; he never bothered to make it after the day Mello left, after the day he found out that he was dead.
No, he decides. It does not end here. He will catch Kira, for L, for Mello, for the world, for himself. It is more than just a job, but personal revenge. And he has to win. After all, if you do not have the patience to rebuild the puzzle, you are just another loser.
His thoughts go back to his predecessor. Will he be able to live up to him? Will he be able to surpass him? No, he decides, not alone.
It is raining outside. He can hear the pitter-patter of the raindrops against the window.
The whole world is tense. The whole world is waiting. The whole world is hoping. Even the gods are unhappy, he thinks.
And the sky is crying, because gods cannot.
