A/N: Just the shortest thing I've ever written because Sable started (fake) school today :) Hope you enjoy it, babe!

Reid hasn't always known what he's wanted to do with his life, the options as vast as the books in the world and his preferences changing as swiftly as the pages he read. So it hadn't come as a surprise for Reid, or anyone who knew him, that he went back to school for more learning than most people recieve in their entire lives. But where other people enjoyed television Reid was happy sitting in lecture halls with his nose in a textbook or figuring out problems on the board that they had yet to learn about.

It was on one of his round trips through the post secondary education system that put him in a mandatory class and while he usually didn't mind learning about things that were still beyond him any sort of mechanics had been so out of his way that he had ignored the entire field altogether. The worst part about the whole affair was that the class itself wasn't mandatory, but an option was, and since only 4 other people had signed up for the Archaic Latin course that was being offered the course had been dropped and anything else of interest full.

In light of these circumstances Reid did the only thing he thought suitable, just take it, just as he had done with everything else public school was able to throw, kick, or punch at him.

While the thought of fiddling with cars and engines was bad the torture of mechanics only grew worse when they were told to partner up on their first day, and Reid could do nothing but sit there in the back of the room as flashbacks of high school swelled into the shop and filled his mind.

But then something happened that never had in high school or junior high; as people milled about and chose partners based off of friendships and looks someone Reid didn't know sat down beside him, smiled in a most charming way and said, "Hi, my name's Derek. Would you like to be my partner this semester?"

A/N: For those who are confused: The term Post Secondary refers to any type of education after High School (i.e. University, college, trade school, etc.). I purposefully used ambiguous terms like this for I wasn't sure where I wanted them to be placed, quite yet.
