The Chief had been very clear, growing up, about the evils of lying.

He was the son of the chief of police and Nathan had better live up to that. Or else. But as he leaned in and kissed her, he wondered. He wondered at the lies that spilled out easily and smoothly from of his mouth – is this who he really was?

As he kissed her, thoroughly and convincingly, he wondered. Was he Max Hansen's son or the Chief's?
