A/N: A response to Enovie's C2 Twilight fic contest – write a fic of 150 words or less featuring the exact phrase 'I saw him reading Peter Pan' and a coherent plot.
Set in the summer after Twilight. Bella/Edward - to turn or not to turn? Exactly 150 words. Peter Pan references are to the plot of Barrie's novel Peter and Wendy, which has a slightly different plot to later adaptations (Disney movie, etc).
I've never written anything this...word efficient...before (I'm usually rather wordy), so any comments would be much appreciated :-D
o
I saw him reading Peter Pan. I didn't need to look to know which page was open.
"Saw you reading," I'd murmured into his neck, the first night he'd had the book.
A long silence. "It didn't have to end," he whispered. "He could've stayed with her as she grew older."
"There's a reason he comes back for her daughter, not her, Edward." It took all my effort not to snap. "The girl who grows old isn't enough for the boy who never will. Mortals can't stay in Neverland." I clasped his hand tighter and refused the sudden prick of tears. "I'm falling back to earth with every second. And you're leaving me behind."
He held me close and kissed me softly, burning. "I'll make it work," he breathed. "I promise." I curled closer into his arms and tried to forget how far apart we really were.
The impasse remained.
