Summary:

Hikari Netto has always been afraid of the dark. When his lover is late to return home one night, he faces the shadows and awaits the light that could send them away.

Netto lay in bed, his head tilted back against the softness of the pillow. The brisk moonlight shone through the curtains, streaking across his face. He had lazily thrown the sheets over himself, leaving most of his body exposed to the night's atmosphere.

The black and blue hues enveloped the ceiling and floor. Furniture came alive under the cover of darkness. The bedside table walked, the lamps talked, the futon laughed. He was so tired.

He eyed every detail in the motionless room, silently trying to get some sleep.

The whisper that dissolves into the bustling crowd…
Blurs the memories scattered underfoot together…

The blazing of the street where I walk about lost
Glaring one way
Illuminates me as though it freezes…

He sighed inwardly, his eyes now fixated on the door. "He's late…"

Netto frowned, squeezing tighter at his pillow. The clock had begun singing a familiar tune, yet he could not understand any of the tones that came from its constant blinking. The shadows in the room danced erratically around the walls, performing in a circus of twilight. The boy still only stared towards the direction of the door.

The cold times make dreams fall like rain, slipping through my hands
When I woke up from the countless wishes, you are reflected in a shimmering…
Illusion…
The silhouette whose faint smile leads me along…

Even if the gentleness that tells how anxiety flows…
Had fulfilled eternity, I still don't want tomorrow…

The words that I have to give you are…
It's talk to myself
Falling into an everyday routine, even without shadows…

The shadows had stretched into bizarre forms now. Their simple, round shapes had been replaced by longer, pointed figures. Arms and legs outstretched from the massive penumbrae. Still, Netto stared at the door. Even when the bed started convulsing like the belly of a hungry animal, the boy remained in an almost lifeless state.

He soon found that it was not the bed that was shaking, but himself.

"Kowai desu ka?" he asked himself.

With a trembling finger, I gather up the dreams…
Without even breathing, they're crumbling
Even the certain things are too unreliable
If I believe something, can I be with you again?
It's whitely vanishing, the silhouette of that day…

Looking up at that palely-dyed season
Life Winter Dream
I, who stopped to stand still, am swept away…

His eyes were slipping, slipping from the sight of the door. He could no longer stay awake. The shadows were devouring him, the stress of the night and darkness finally taking its toll.

"Gomen, gomen…" he told himself.

It was not his voice. He thought it was, but it was too soothing. A pale light reached for his face. It banished the darkness, and comforted him.

The voice came again. "How long have you been awake?"

But Netto couldn't hear it. He could only submit to Tohru's presence, the presence he had awaited for so long.

The wind blows it out, leaves it behind
The yearning is growing numb from the cold in my heart…

The cold times drift about in dreams, but are caught and held in your hands
When I woke up from the countless wishes, you are reflected in a shimmering…
Illusion…
The silhouette whose faint smile leads me along…
