Wolt didn't mind being near horses, but riding them was a different story. Whether it was learning to ride one himself or riding behind someone else, he just couldn't get comfortable. So naturally, Roy was surprised to see Wolt riding behind Sue one evening as they were headed back to camp.
"I thought you'd be afraid of riding forever," he said as Wolt followed him to their tent. "Why the sudden change of heart?"
"I...I just thought it was time, you know? If I'm going to be of any use to this army I shouldn't be so adverse to riding," Wolt said.
"We have plenty of people who don't like it, though," Roy said. "Come on, Wolt, what's this really about?" He grinned. "You looked pretty happy up there..."
Wolt blushed, refusing to look his friend in the eye.
"Nothing! Just because Sue happened to be there and my feet were getting tired...it doesn't mean anything!" he stammered.
"Riiight." Roy snickered. "It's okay, Wolt, you're hardly the first guy to ever have a crush on a girl."
"Roy, please!" Wolt cried. "I didn't think you could be this cruel about it!"
"...hey, Wolt."
"Yeah?"
"You called me Roy. Not master or my lord, but just Roy." Wolt blanched.
"Oh no! I'm sorry, I-"
"Don't." Roy smiled, wrapping an arm around his friend. "Remember when I said I was mad at you? That's why. I miss you being my friend, because that's what we are. Friends, not a lord and his vassal."
Wolt smiled.
"...Sue says her mother had this conversation with a friend of hers almost twenty years ago," he said. "All right, Mas-I mean, Roy," he said, "I guess it can't hurt to break the rules a little if you say it's okay."
