Disclaimer: I don't own AJ Lee or Cody Rhodes. And if I did, poor AJ would probably be this sad all the time.
AJ sighed as she looked over to her side in the dimly lit hotel room.
A stranger. She had absolutely no clue who the man beside her was.
But, at least she wouldn't wake up alone. She'd gotten all too used to that. She hated it.
Ever since Cody left her, she'd been trying to fill the void he left, to fake what they had. But it was useless. No one ever felt quite like home to her. Not like Cody had.
The one place she actually felt safe, was about 8,000 miles away at this point.
AJ could barely even remember how beautiful his face was. That thought stung her every time. She wanted and needed Cody by her side. She was literally nothing without him.
Thinking about him made her heart ache, but seeing him for a little while, even if it was just in her head, put her at ease.
But when she opened her eyes, and he wasn't there, her sense of security was lifted. She was left vulnerable to the rest of the world.
AJ sighed again as she wiped away tears that had started falling down her cheeks.
While Cody was thousands of miles away, sleeping soundly, completely over his and AJ's relationship, AJ sat crying in bed, wondering with the rest of the lonely people in the world.
It had been exactly 6 months today. Even she had no idea what was wrong with her.
No break up had ever effected her this much. She didn't know why this had hurt her as much as it had. Why she missed him as much as she did, why she wanted nothing more than to hold him in her arms again. She just didn't understand.
Somewhere in her heart, AJ knew that she'd never find another guy like Cody. No one was as sweet, funny, caring, beautiful, or as perfect as him.
She already accepted that for as long as she lived, she'd never be whole again. Because no one could fill the hole in her heart.
AJ secretly cursed the distance between them. It was what ruined everything.
They lived in Tampa together for 3 years, until Cody's job interfered.
He moved to Charlotte, and she stayed in Tampa.
They tried so hard to make things work. For 3 months, they would talk to each other on the phone as much as they could. Cody would come visit whenever time permitted, which was maybe twice a month.
On Cody's last visit, was when he had told her that he wanted to give up.
And those were his exact words. "AJ, I give up. I can't do this. I love you, but I just can't deal with the distance. I'm sorry."
His words rung loudly in her ears.
Obviously, that had hurt like hell.
And that night, when Cody left for the last time, he left a mark on AJ.
He would always have a huge place in her heart. You can't forget your first love.
But that was the past.
As AJ sat silently in the hotel bed, she made a promise to herself.
She wasn't going to look back anymore. It was useless to want someone back, when they don't even notice that you're gone.
She'd never be the same person she was before, that was a sad fact.
AJ snuggled back into the bed, and prayed for the people like her. The ones who were sitting awake this late at night, begging for their lives to be like they were before they showed up. The people who were so broken they couldn't feel anymore. Those that never slept, while the one who had destroyed them all the way to their very core slept soundly every single night. Not phased by their past at all.
She hoped that every one of them could do what she was doing, because nobody deserved to hurt like this.
She closed her eyes, and wished them good luck.
AJ finally proved that anything was possible.
Because tonight, she moved on.
