Title: Coal Dust

Rating: T

Disclaimer: The ER characters are not mine.

Description: A short post-Foreign Affairs piece. Luby. "Cold concrete beneath you adheres to your soles, the daggers of her gaze pierce your soul."

Dedications: Thought I'd share this as it has been sitting in one of my fanfic folders for a long time. No apologies for the shameless word-play in this! As always to Tash, Sunny, Meghan, Rowena and all at Fan Forum. Happy 26th, people J Thanks to anyone who is reading.

You found her on your doorstep. Her cigarette a pyre of ash and amber, neat black clothes now creased with lines, everything still and cold. Tears balled up, never quite ready to unfurl, but slight traces smudging her make-up, kohl smeared like coal dust peppered with diamonds.

The night air clothes you both like a shroud, her wounded gaze offers little explanation. Cold concrete beneath you adheres to your soles, the daggers of her gaze pierce your soul.

Warm air and suffering wish to tear you away. But how can you go?

You're healing, she's slightly broken.

Everything is perfect.
