Well, I suppose this could be considered a one shot sequel to Troublesome Things, set a few years into the future, but I make no mention of either Ino or Temari so it could be whatever one you want.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, if I did, all hell would break loose.

Spring was such a lovely season.

Winter had come and gone; now spring was here. The trees once again were green and full of life; the fresh grass was soft and lush. Clouds of pure white drifted across the clear sky that was once dark and grey. The comforting breeze held just a hint of coolness, the blooming flowers giving much needed colour.

In a field not too far from Konoha, a lone tree stood, it's newly grown leaves rustling gently in the wind, a single flower grew just a short distance away. A couple of birds flew by, chirping happily, as if welcoming the new season.

To Shikamaru –who was sitting in said field- this was beautiful. Spring was his favourite season, and for many reasons.

The sound of small feet running across the field snapped him out of his reverie. He knew who those footsteps belonged to.

A small boy of only four years of age (and proud of it!) tackled him from behind, giggling childishly. Shikamaru just chuckled softly at the boy's antics. He could never remember having this much energy when he was a kid.

'He must get it from his mother.'

The boy stared up at Shikamaru, a large smile plastered on his face, his brown eyes sparkling, with just a hint of laziness behind. How that was possible, he would never know, but then again, this little boy was his son.

"Papa," he said, "Mama says that spring is your favourite season. How come you love it so much?" for a four year old, he had a very good vocabulary. He was a Nara after all, though it still had a childish tone to it.

Shikamaru looked at his son and replied; "I love the spring because everything that was once old and dead is new again."

He smiled and gently ruffled the boy's blonde hair.

"I also love spring" he continues, "Because that was when I met your mother for the first time, and also because this is the season you were born. That's why I love it."

A huge smile spread across the young Nara's face.

"Mama loves spring too."
