The night was frigid, cold enough that you were able to see your breath. At least she would have been able to see her breath, had she been human. She had long ago given up such trivialities as "breath" and "living" in exchange for the sweet, undead kiss of immortality. She was J. Vespertina, self proclaimed Vampiress of the Evening. She spent most of her time here, on the rooftops of the city where she used to live. Silently watching, stalking and waiting for the perfect opportunity to catch her prey. She was as a shadow, nothing more than a flash of pallid skin against the backdrop of the beautiful, regal, ominous and amazing moon.
Her graceful agility and agile grace were perfectly exhibited in her amazingly lithe movements while leaping across the darkened rooftops. When mortal, she had been a dancer. One of the greatest ballerinas to ever live, she was destined to go down in history as the prettiest and most perfect ballerina of them all. She never regretted leaving all that behind.
She paused on her favorite building, hunched in anticipation, when suddenly a familiar scent rushed into her nostrils. He was here. Edward Cullen was here.
Some thought of Edward when they pictured the perfect man. She however was not so naïve. She knew he had flaws just like any other person.
"Heh" she chuckled to herself "I guess not a person per se"
Although she had always loved him, she could never allow herself to show it. She had so much riding on her outward appearance of independence and individuality that she feared if she truly followed her heart and gave in to this ashen Adonis she would lose herself in his beauty and commanding charm. She knew she would forever be nothing more than Edward's secret fan.
Her thoughts were cut short as he stepped out into the moonlight. His perfect hair bounced ever so beautifully as he sauntered towards her. She couldn't think of a more wonderful end to her hunt. She stood, speechless as he moved towards her, his body exuding charisma with every step. Quickly, she composed herself.
"Hello Edward" She whispered as he stepped close
"You? You haven't died yet?" He barked. His voice echoed through the night air, it was as if a silk scarf had been gently brushed across her skin. She shuddered as he spoke.
"Of course not" she said, twirling a strand of hair around her ring finger. She knew he admired how independent she was. "Why would you think I died?"
Edward contorted his face into a beautiful brooding grimace "Because usually weak, pathetic and helpless vampires don't last very long. I would have never guessed you would still be around. Honestly I would kill you myself if I could stomach touching you."
She smiled; she was always amazed at how well Edward could mask his endless love and boundless adoration of her with such brazen cruelty and malice. She thought it must be hard to hide it so often, especially since she would do anything for him.
"What are you doing this evening?" she asked
With a strong push to the chest, she fell to the ground and he walked past her.
"Stay away from me, I'm looking for someone" He grumbled as he jumped to the next rooftop.
Laying on the ground, her chest already bruising and showing signs of possible breaks, she couldn't help but think "He needs me; why else would he push me away?"
She rose, she was drawn to him. She needed to help him. They were destined to be together tonight.
Following Edward, she limped off into the dark.
