A:N/ I wrote this right after I watched the season 6 finale and didn't get around to posting it until now. In my little AU, Cuddy ditches House after they kiss in his bathroom. FYI.

I was watching The Holiday for the eighteenth million time when the front door opened and a shaken Gregory House stepped into my condo. I sat, unmoving and silent as he limped into the room.

"Foreman called me an hour ago," I said, not turning to face my late night visitor. "Then Cuddy called me."

"Did she tell you?" he replied.

I was quiet for a moment. "You don't need to move out right away. You can wait for a little bit."

"Where's Sam?"

"Her brother's in town."

"Why aren't you with them?"

"We don't… we don't get along."

The room was silent except for the low voices of Jude Law and Cameron Diaz coming from my television. I half expected House to change the subject and point out the fact that I was watching a chick flick alone in my apartment.

"I can tell when you're lying," he said.

"And I can tell when you're freaked out." I replied, then shifted to face him. "What happened? Not with… earlier. What happened after Cuddy called me?"

He took a step forward, coming out of the doorway to lean on the wall, then looked at the ceiling, absentmindedly playing with his can. "She followed me back to my old apartment."

He paused and I shifted to a more comfortable position, staring blankly into the room, away from him. I waited for him to continue. I had a feeling about what was coming next.

"I was about to relapse. I had some Vicodin squirreled away in my bathroom."

I looked at him. He didn't look so great, but I knew he was fine. Physically, that is. Except for the slight tremble in his hands that he was trying to hide from me.

"Did you take it?"

"No. Almost did. Then she showed up. She told me…" his voice trailed off. I waited. "Did she tell you about the thing with Lucas?"

"The engagement? Yeah. If you want to-"

"No. The wedding's off."

This was news to me. Something wasn't right.

"She told me she loved me," said House, turning away from me to face the opposite wall.

"Wow," I replied, at a loss for words. "Well, this is good news, isn't it?"

"Don't you understand?" House shouted, whirling towards me again. "Don't you understand that my entire world is falling apart? Again? Oh wait, you can't because Sam has you wrapped around her little finger. You're blind, Wilson. You're blind and stupid and happy. Just like everyone else."

I was a little taken aback. "House-"

"Don't. Just, don't," he told me, still shaking, but this time from rage. "I guess you've changed more than I realized. I have to go." He turned to leave.

"House, don't go," I said, getting up. "Look, I know that I can't exactly relate to what you're going through, but I want you to know that I'm here for you. I always will be."

I half expected him to make a comment on how gay I just sounded, chuckle, and sit down to watch the movie with me. But he turned his head instead, and gave me a look of contempt and disgust that told me things between us wouldn't be the same for a long time, if ever. He walked out the door without another word.
