/Don't look away../
Kakashi was sitting on a branch in a big tree some where in the middle of the training grounds when Gai caught sight of him. Gai had just been training, and paused to take a break and catch his breath.
Climbing up in the tree that was beside him Gai sat on the branch and gazed at Kakashi..
Kakashi looked around the training grounds, and his eyes caught Gais'..He felt alittle dismayed by the way that Gai was staring at him..
'Why are you looking at me like that..?'
Gai didn't smile, which was really unlike him, but he locked his eyes on Kakashis' and just watched him intently, this was one of the rare times that Kakashi showed all the hurt, and loneliness. This was one of the times when Gai tried to get Kakashi to look at him as long as possible, so that he could see that there was someone who loved him.
Kakashi bit his bottom lip, he was trembling, and he couldn't figure out why, but what was even more curious then the trembling was the fact that he couldn't look away from Gai..
Gai watched as Kakashis' eyes began to glisten.
'Don't look away..'
Gai wanted to call out to him, to tell him it was okay, but he couldn't speak right now.
Kakashi shivered as the unfimilliar feeling of a tear running down his cheek became real.
'I can't be strong like you..'
Gai began to jump down off of the tree branch as he saw the tears spill over, and run down Kakashis' Cheeks.
Watching as Gai jumped down Kakashi followed his ecery move so that not to lose eye contact with him.
Once on the ground they began to walk toward each other.
Pausing when they got to wach other Kakashi was the first to speak "...He's not coming back.." He said softly, Gai reached out and took hold of him and never let go again.
"Don't look away Kakashi.." Gai whispered softly in his ear "..I'm here to catch you if you fall." He said pulling Kakashi closer, and holding him tightly.
Clutching Gais' vest Kakashi began to sob into his chest "I-I dunno what I'll do if I lose some one else Gai!" He screamed into Gais' chest as he sobbed.
Gai pet his hair and held him to his chest "..it's okay Kakashi..I'll protect you..You aren't gonna lose any one ever again.." Gai cooed, though he knew this was a promise that he couldn't keep.
And this would prove to be true years later when Kakashi would lose the only cell he had ever passed, and it was then that Gai knew, Kakashi was more broken then ever before, but pretended not to feel it until he was all alone in his apartment room, where he could cry.
Gai knew that he had failed him, but promised to make him forget the pain that haunted his beautiful grey eyes..
