A Root Beer Float Made for Two

Writer's note: Just a cute little ficlet about Felix and Calhoun's parting that we didn't get to see at the end of the movie. I sorta meshed two scenes from the novelization together.

Felix was an old-fashioned type of guy. He held the door open for ladies; tipped his hat in greeting folks; said please and thank you and all that polite jargons. And when it came to dating he was no different.

He'd been on a couple dates over the years, mostly in his game's younger days. None of the pretty gals – as sweet as they were – were the one. How did he know they weren't the one? Well, as preposterous as it sounded, he could never picture sharing a root beer float with any of them.

Sharing something – a spoon, a kiss, a bed, a root beer float with two straws – was the ultimate sealer in a relationship. And Felix knew he'd found his destiny when he stumbled across Sergeant Tamora Calhoun.

They'd shared a moment, ironically right after a near death experience. Since then Felix's mind was alight with visions of a back table in Burger Time and a beautiful blonde smiling through peek-a-bangs sitting across from him.

Their adventure was drawing to a close and working up the nerve seemed a little harder after they'd kissed. Felix waved Ralph on as the large man hopped out of the escape pod.

"Times ticking, Fix-It and the watch isn't running out of batteries anytime soon," Calhoun informed.

Felix cleared his throat, swallowing his butterflies. "Miss Calhoun, it may take eternity to break through the cast iron skillet covering your heart, but I'm willing to wait."

Calhoun's head had bowed while he spoke, the fringe of blonde curtain covering her face. Felix could take a hint. He wouldn't push if she wished to be left alone. At least he had an amazing kiss to remember her by.

He was about to hop out when Calhoun wheeled him around, slamming their lips together. Felix melted under her touch. Whether this was a kiss of confirmation or of farewell, it'd play out in his dreams for the next 30 years.

Calhoun severed their connection with a satisfying pop. Her cheeks were slightly aglow and by golly, she looked stunning! She swallowed before asked, "Burger Time tonight after work?"

Felix could barely contain the fountain that was springing up in his heart at her words. "Of course!" His own cheeks were glowing, but he had to ask, "Could we share a root beer float with two straws?" He fiddled with his tool belt. "I mean, you can have your own float if you'd like…"

"Fix-It," Calhoun said authoritatively, and Felix found himself standing at attention. She tossed her bangs back with the flick of her head, the corner of her mouth curving up. "Two straws."

Felix's heart nearly burst from his chest at those two words. "Yes, ma'am!" he confirmed with a smile that threatened to split his face. He hopped out and watched her maneuver the escape pod back through the Hero's Duty outlet. Dashing onto his gamescape, Felix was just in time to give the most enthusiastic "I can fix it!" line he's ever delivered.

Today was definitely the best day of his life…so far.
