Chapter 1
It was night, and the city of Harwood shuddered under the wrath of a heavy storm. Up on the rooftop of one of the city's many buildings, a group of young adults were doing battle with a mysterious figure wrapped in silver and purple armor, like a Knight.
"Dragon Sword!" Troy Burrows yelled out, slashing at this mysterious enemy. The Knight wielded a shield that sheathed his sword. At a blinding speed, the Knight withdrew his weapon and quickly out fought the Red Megaforce Ranger. Troy was struck in the chest and was forced to skid back a few feet.
"What do you have against Rangers?!" He demanded, but he got no reply. Instead, he got another slash to the chest.
"Troy!" Noah shouted out in concern. "Sea Shower Card, Activate!" A stream of highly pressurized water rocketed from Noah's Morpher, colliding with his target.
"Useless…" A deep voice muttered before sending a slash wave of energy at Noah, knocking him into a railing.
"Spar-Quake Card, Activate!" Jake commanded, electrifying the enemy. The Black Ranger grunted in pain as he continued to send electricity through the ground and at his target to hold him down.
Emma called out, "Jake, move!" The Black Ranger nodded and jumped away, revealing that Emma and Troy had combined their weapons.
"Sky Blaster! Fire!" The two Sky Rangers fired together, causing their enemy to explode.
"Did we get'em?" Noah asked after a few moments of silence. Suddenly, out of the smoke, the Knight's sword flew at them on a chain. It slashed through the four easily.
"Wait…" Jake came to realize, "That's Gia's Saber Whip move!" He got to his feet and demanded, "What'd you do with Gia?!"
The air was full, thick with tension. Upon Jake's demands, the other Mega Rangers perked up, not moving a muscle. Troy gripped his sword in anticipation while Emma was trying to process the possibility of what could've happened to her best friend.
Noah shouted, "Answer him!"
The Knight, in a smooth, deep voice, simply stated, "I am Galar. I came only to fight the strongest warriors. After fighting the one you call 'Gia,' I concluded you would prove to be a challenge. It seems like you are not strong enough to invigorate me."
Galar turned to walk away, but Jake was not having it.
"I asked you a question!" He charged forward, transforming into his Ultra Mode. He loaded his Victory Charge Card into his Morpher and Staff. "Where is she?!" He jumped in front of Galar and fired from point-blank. However, Galar swiftly avoided this attack, leaving the rest of the Mega Rangers in harm's way. Jake's attack almost hit his friends, but Emma swiftly used the Defen-Storm Card to protect them. Despite blocking the attack, the force of it was enough to knock the three over and demorph them.
"Guys!" Jake gasped, demorphing as well. "Are you okay?" He sprinted to his friends, panic overtaking him. As he ran to them, he began to feel the atmosphere change. Before he could get to his team, a golden orb the size of a golf ball appeared in front of him. It glowed brightly and engulfed him before he could even process what was going on.
"Jake!" Emma cried out, she and the boys running to where their friend disappeared.
"Where'd he go?" Noah asked, touching the ground the ball floated over.
~Elsewhere~
Jake opened his eyes and found himself standing in a brightly lit, marble room. Immediately, his senses were overwhelmed by sights and sounds. All around him, hundreds of other people stood, voicing their concern. He recognized a lot of them as Rangers who came before and after him. But what were they doing there? How did they get there? Jake didn't understand.
"Welcome, all!" Came a youthful, British accented voice. The owner was a man in his early twenties. He had beautifully chocolate-tanned skin, dark eyes, and short, curly black hair. He was tall and broad shouldered, and he wore a striped black and red cardigan sweater that extended below his knees. Under the cardigan was a black shirt and brown pants that, to Jake, looked like pajama pants.
This mysterious young man also wore black and red sandals. He grinned a perfectly white smile and continued, "This is my home and my name is Haven. I am what you call a 'God.' Please, I know you are confused as to why you are here, and I will explain right now."
Jake crossed his arms, waiting for the explanation. Haven informed with a jovial tone, "Once every few eons, I bring together a group of powerful warriors to partake in a friendly tournament. It's a sort of, celebration for the gift that is the Morphing Grid."
"A tournament?" Asked a girl.
"Yes, my friend. I will split you all up into randomized teams and we will test how well you can fight and adapt to different environments and factors. The team that wins the tournament will receive one wish per teammate. It can be anything your heart desires."
"Sounds a bit sketchy, my Dude," Came a young man's voice, earning a few snickers from the crowd.
Haven smiled and waved his hands, "I promise, this is legit. I am a God after all. I've watched each and every one of you defend your homes from the forces of Darkness. I know you virtuous warriors do so without the desire to gain something. But, I figured I would reward you anyway. So, those who wish to enter the tournament only need to accept my invitation within their minds and my magic will sweep you away."
Jake's heart began to race. If he could win this tournament, he could wish to find Gia. He nodded his head in resolve and accepted Haven's invitation. Within a few seconds, he was whisked away once more.
Jake found himself in what he could only describe as an apartment. It had a living room with couches, a flat screen TV mounted on the wall, pictures and bookshelves lining the walls. The kitchen was connected to the living room while there was a hallway that held three doors on both sides.
A banner was hung over the TV that read, "Team Odd Ones Out."
"Jake?" Came a voice he recognized. Lauren Shiba emerged from one of the rooms with a small smile on her face.
"Lauren," Jake grinned, "Good to see you again."
"Good to see you, too. Who else is here?" She asked.
"Me, Dudes."
The two met the eyes of Dustin Brooks, who was followed by Bridge Carson, Becca Pines, and finally, Parker Yukimura.
"So… we're the team, I guess," Bridge pointed at the banner. "Team Odd Ones Out… Nice."
Becca huffed, "Being odd isn't a bad thing."
Parker commented, "Seems like Haven has a sense of humor." As if on cue, Haven's face appeared on TV.
"Alrighty, my Ranger friends! Let's get the first round started!" Behind him, appeared a bracket that Jake recognized from March Madness, but it was smaller.
Haven explained, "There are sixteen teams of six Rangers. In this first round, all the Rangers from the teams will fight. Then next round, only four Rangers will fight, then three, then two, then in the Finals, it'll be one on one."
Haven snapped his fingers, conjuring a glowing red rock. "While you must fight your opponents to the best of your ability, the true objective is to touch one of these Victory Stones. It'll appear anywhere at anytime on the battlefield. The first team to have a member touch it automatically wins! However, it'll only appear when you fight a while. The best strategy is to force your opponents to demorph, making them unable to continue fighting!"
"So, it's basically a Golden Snitch," Dustin remarked with a smirk, "Got it."
Bridge happily pointed out, "I got that reference!"
"Without further ado…" Haven snapped his fingers again, making the bracket behind him come alive with colors. "The first teams facing off in Block A are…"
The first two lines on the bracket began to shift, forming the names of the Teams.
"Why So Serious? VS. Odd Ones Out!"
"He certainly didn't waste any time," Parker commented standing up.
"Let's do this, you guys," Lauren nodded, taking charge.
The Team appeared in a battlefield that was completely empty, save for a series of floating circular black platforms half the size of racquetball courts.
OOOs stood on one platform facing the competition.
Haven's voice echoed, "Rangers, Morph up!"
"Ready?" Lauren asked.
"Ready!" The others called out.
"Ninja Storm, Ranger Form! Ha!" Dustin called out.
"SPD Emergency!"
"Go Go Samurai!"
"Go Go Megaforce!"
"Transcode: Fusion Fall!"
"Skyward Force, Transcend!"
The other team raised their Morphers as well.
"Magna Power!"
"Wild Access!"
"Thunderstorm, Ranger Form! Ha!"
"RPM Get in Gear!"
"SPD Emergency!"
"Let's Rock It!"
Mike the Magna Defender, Merrick the Lunar Wolf, Hunter the Crimson Ranger, Scott the RPM Red Ranger, Sky the Deka Ranger, and Andros the Space Ranger stood ready.
Haven counted down, "3… 2… 1… Begin!"
