I live in New Zealand and haven't actually seen 8x12 yet, save the last scene but this is my take on that last scene and the phone call.
Disclaimer: I own 1 unit of the new board game… in the box of which the little Gil and Sara lie next to each other ALWAYS… CBS I'm staring at you very pointedly right now. Own nothing else, darn it.
Hope you liketh… comment if you do… comment if you don't.
He walked in the door of his apartment, his horse of a dog leading him.
He untied the boxer's leash and dropped it uncaringly to the side somewhere.
His head had been spinning all day, he'd learned over the last few days that influenza actually didn't bode too well with a tough case, and yes it had been a tough one.
Desperate to take the pressure of his weight off his aching feet, he proceeded to make his way to the couch.
He sat down and groaned appreciatively, tiredly, letting all the emotions of the previous days float out of him with his exhaling breath.
His cell phone rang and for a minute he thought it was simply his ears ringing like they sometimes do when he gets under stress.
Alas, the ringing ears, which usually weren't such a good sign would have been welcomed warmly at that moment but sadly, were not, for they did not provide the intrusive sound making his head vibrate like a timpani.
He bowed his head and thought a singular thought, "Why do I even carry on?"
He usually would have disregarded looking at the caller ID and simply addressed the caller in a monotonic tone, as anybody from outside work rarely called him and all of his workmates were used to his jaded tenor.
This time, something told him to make an exception, maybe just to spite himself.
His right eye caught the very first letter of her name, and as nobody else in his list of known contacts had a name beginning with that particular letter, his heart instantly gave a flutter.
He grinned and picked up the phone eagerly, laying himself down on the blessed couch.
"Hi", he simply stated into the mouth piece.
"You would not believe the digital library at the Exploratorium!" her voice came without greeting.
He chuckled and made himself comfortable, ready for a lengthy conversation.
"Why do I even carry on?… oh yeah, that's right."
