Breathe

"Give me a minute," He whispered tenderly into his lover's ear. His face was flushed, he couldn't breathe. Finger delicately fell into strands of soft hair. He hated his weakness, but thanked it nonetheless. It brought him affection as well as death.

A soft breath blew against his warm forehead. He fisted the bed sheets beside him with his free hand. The breath was so gentle, so controlled. His own came in rough, jagged breaths, his throat ached from the constant coughing. Even now they choked him, clawing to escape.

"Just breathe."

Hands wrapped around him, pulling him closer. A warm chest pillowed his head, the heart beating as soft as the breaths. His eyes were tightly shut, his lips brushed against smooth, moist skin. He listen to the chest beneath him rise and fall. Slowly he followed suit, not allowing his aching lungs to win. "You need sleep."

His lover slowly reclined back onto the futon; his cheek never left his chest. They laid silently for what seemed like forever. Opening his eyes, he saw nothing but darkness. A sad smile crossed his lips for a second before it slipped away. Hands were stroking his long hair delicately. He felt so fragile, yet so loved. He placed a kiss on his lover's chest, his lips marking where the heart was. "Goodnight." He breathed.
