Grantaire sat himself down in the grass, the dew wet through his jeans and made him shiver. The blonde haired man in front if him smiled and Grantaire chuckled under his breath which had the distinct smell of brandy.
"Hey, Enjolras." He said, leaning in close. The blue eyes stared at him with that familiar shine, his lips were curved into a loving smile. He stared back, goofy grin in place.
Grantaire leaned down and kissed those angelic lips, smiling like an idiot. 'Even after all this time, all we've been though, I still get butterflies' he thought and his face flushed from embarrassment. He chuckled again and stared down at his hands folded in his lap.
"I miss you. Apartments quiet without you there." He said, heart aching as he rambled. "I wanted to come see you earlier but Combferre was worried, didn't want me to do something dumb."
Tracing his lovers dimples he sighed sadly and continued "He means well but he doesn't know I'm only myself when you're there."
His phone buzzed in his pocket but he ignored it, his time with Enjolras was too precious to spend on the phone. He lay back, shivering slightly at the cold ground. He stared back into his lovers eyes. Feeling his breath catch and tears form at the corner of his eyes he tried to think of happier things. His chest tightened as the memories came back to him. He began to ramble, as if trying to stop the evident sadness from showing.
"Jehan and Courfeyrac finally got together. Took 'em long enough." He laughed, "Joly stopped staring at his tongue. He's got a girlfriend now. Well, actually him and Bosseut are kind of together too. I really dont know what's going on with that."
Feeling his throat constrict he tried to talk more, as if that would help,"Cosette and Marius are getting married sometime next year." He stops, feeling tears fall come his eyes, "...you should be here. For all of it."
Quietly he sits up again, and turns to face the picture on the stone. The picture of his boyfriend, happily smiling although now it looks like he's mocking him in Grantaires eyes. He leans forward until his head is resting on the smooth granite.
"I'm sorry." He chokes out, sobs becoming loud and unbearable, "I said ...I would protect you... I'm sorry."
His cheat tightens in his chest as each memory plays across his mind. A protest which escalated into a full blown riot. Grantaire can almost feel himself running with his boyfriends hand clasped tight in his as they pushed past frantic waves of panicked people, he can almost hear the screams, and can almost feel the blood dripping from enjolras' chest and onto his.
"Every night I see you. Why won't you leave me alone?" He asks, angry at himself as he remembers turning to see the knife wounds in his boyfriends chest. He clutches the stone in his hands, feeling like his heart is being shattered over and over.
"There he is." He hears a familiar voice say across the graveyard, "Give him a minute."
From what he can hear Combferre and Courfeyrac stand on the gravel road, ready to come get him if need be. Like always, they know he's here. After a year of searching random places they know he'll always be here. His time alone with Enjolras is up. Reluctantly he wipes away his tears and pulls himself away form the stone, emptiness retuning.
"I love you, Enjolras." He says weakly, kissing the picture, "Goodnight, My Apollo."
