A/N: I finally got to see The Fires of Pompeii, it was the only New Who episode I hadn't seem . I know a ridiculous amount of Latin, and while watching The Fires of Pompeii I keep thinking of thing phrases Donna or the Doctor should say in Latin. So I decided to do what any sensible fangirl would do in my position: write a fanfic about it!
This story takes place just before The Doctor and Donna land in, The Fires of Pompeii.
"Before we go, I need to tune translation circuit just a bit of a, It'll only take a mo—No, Donna! Don't touch that or fieri potest ut Latine blaterare incipias!" You may start babbling in Latin.
Donna blinked in confusion.
"Medice?" Doctor?
"Why are you looking at me like that? I told you not to touch that, Oh! I'm speaking Latin, aren't I? Well, I'm not really speaking Latin, I'm speaking English, you're just hearing Latin and speaking it. Well, actually you're speaking English too, it's just that—"
"Medice!" Doctor!
"Right, sorry." Speaking slowly and gesturing emphatically, he continued.
"Don't worry, I can repair it."
This didn't seem to reassure her as much as he'd hoped.
"Scilicet putas te currum reficere posse—stipes es!" Of course you think you can repair it—you're a moron!
"Insultase tu mihi?" Are you insulting me? "Of course you're not, you can't understand me. Now then—"
"Istae scintillae ex omnibus claviaturis gubernatoriis evolant!" Sparks are coming out of the control panels!
"What!"
The Doctor whirled around and promptly hit the sparking control panel with a mallet. Smiling manically, he dashed around, pressing what seemed to be random buttons. The TARDIS emitted a high pitched humming noise, then went silent.
"There! That's all fixed then. Where were you saying you wanted to go?"
"Anywhere but Rome." She responded, scowling.
"Anywhere but Rome it is, then. Quid nobis infeliciter fieri potest?" What could possibly go wrong?
"Spaceman!"
"Only joking."
