Plot: Jax has loved Tara since they were teenagers, even loving her after she left him at nineteen and been away for the past eleven years. But she came back, bringing trouble with her. Jax can't protect her and he has guilt over it. After loving only Tara for so many years can he find true love with someone else?
Author's Note: I know I have a few open stories right now, a couple being with Sons of Anarchy, but I had this idea last night and I wanted to get started on it. Mainly post this first part to see if people would be interested or not as in it is somewhat AU once a certain first episode passes. Tara and Jax fanbase is sort of half and half so if you love Jax and Tara together and he with no one else then the story won't be for you but I hope you give it a chance.

prologue
"I'm so sorry about Tara, baby." Gemma told her only living son, Jax Teller.
Jax stared straight ahead, his eyes red from crying the night before. "I should have been there."
Gemma moved over to her son, sitting down next to him on his brown leather couch. "You were helping the club. You couldn't have known that was going to happen. You followed the cop car taking him out of town."
It had been eleven years since he and Tara had anything romantic going on but her recent death affected him just the same. Even though she had left him, he learned to live without her. He even met someone new, Wendy Case, and at the suggestion of his mother, he married her. But the one person that he truly loved and always thought about was Tara. The fact that she wasn't around or even spoke to him didn't change his feelings for her.
When she showed back up in Charming to pack her dead father's home and got a job at St. Thomas, the local hospital, he felt they could eventually get back together. But now that would never happen. She had gone back to Charming to get away from an ex-boyfriend who had been abusing and stalking her. But her arriving in Charming didn't help to save her.
He eventually found out what had happened between her and Kohn and thought he had taken care of it. But he hadn't. Somehow he came back into town and broke into her home, waiting until she arrived that night and then attacked her. If only he had stayed there longer or went in with her, maybe she would have been alive right now but he hadn't.
Fortunately for Kohn, the Charming police department had gotten to him before Jax could. Unfortunately for Jax, the cops had gotten to him first. For him to get revenge he'd need to have someone on the inside do his dirty work. Or wait for him to be sentenced to death. To Jax, waiting on death row wasn't going to be quick enough.
A/N: I know this is very short, which is why I made it a prologue instead of an actual chapter. Like I said in the other author's note, I really want to get the premise out there and see if it's something you all are interested in. Please review. Any ideas you may have too. I do sometimes consider what people suggest in reviews if it fits into the overall premise or something really small that works.
