Artist: Boyz II Men

Year: 1997

Disclaimer: Neither the song used in this oneshot nor the anime that sparked it belong to me. Did that just blow your mind or what?

Lyrics:

You taught me everything
And everything you've given me
I'll always keep it inside
You're the driving force in my life, yeah
There isn't anything
Or anyone that I can be
And it just wouldn't feel right
If I didn't have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
Whenever I was down
You were always there
To comfort me
And no one else can be
What you have been to me
You'll always be
You will always be the girl
In my life for all times

Chorus:
Mama
Mama you know I love you
(Oh you know I love you)
Mama
Mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
Mama I just want you to know
Lovin' you is like food to my soul

(yes it is, yes it is,ohhhhh
You're always there for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
(Yes you did)
And you took up for me
When everyone was downin' me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you come to me
And saaaayyyyy,
I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
You'll always be
You will always be
The girl in my life
(oooo, oohh)

Chorus

Never gonna go a day without you
Fill's me up just thinking about you
I'll never go a day
Without my mama

Chorus

Sasuke stood in front of the memorial alter built downstairs. His mouth pulled in a tight line. In his trembling hand he clenched a bronze picture frame. Inside the frame was an old photograph of his late mother. Slowly, he lifted the frame and, by the glow of the burning candles, gazed at the picture of his Mikoto. His free hand lifted and his damp fingertips traced lightly over the glass of the frame. He closed his eyes and fought back tears.

In that frame was the only person who had ever made Sasuke feel like he belonged. Like he had reason to live. He reflected on all the times he'd failed and all the times Itachi naturally overshadowed him. But through those times, there was one common factor that kept his smiling. It was the same one who crushed him off after a fall. Who had a warm smile and hot food when he felt empty. It was the same one who was brutally taken from him that dark night long ago. His body trembled as the smell of her hair overpowered the incense. Her smile within the picture came to life and he could see her at the door, washed in sunlight, smiling and waving him in for supper.

"Uhn!" Sasuke let out suddenly as his knees buckled. He fell against the shrine, using it for support, and placed his head down inside his arm. He clutched the picture frame to his chest and shook violently.

Slowly, he began sliding on the floor until he was curled in a ball. He held the frame up beside his face and choked, "Happy birthday, Mother." Then the tears came without stinting and he sobbed, holding onto the frame tightly while the candles and incense continued fading in the background.
