Temperance Brennan, Forensic Anthropologist for the Jeffersonian Institute stood and watched as all her old friends walked out of the lab laughing. It had been three months since she returned from Maluki, but everything had changed.

No one even bothered to look at her or talk to her any more, they were cold and detached whenever they had to talk to her. Brennan knew she had made a mistake when she left but doesn't everyone she was human after all despite many thoughts. Angela her supposed best friend left her for Booth's new girlfriend Hannah, who quote 'had more human emotions'. And, Booth who had confessed his love to her left her for another woman not even giving her the chance to think about how she felt.

Brennan, as time went by became cold to them as well, becoming who she used to be before she let her walls down. The only ones who had stayed by her side were Daisy and Parker. Daisy who knew what she had been going through on Maluki and Parker who would never abandon someone for something they did unless it was on purpose.

Brennan was grateful to Daisy and Parker for staying by her while everyone else didn't. Brennan turned back to her work at hand, the victim was a Caucasian male in his mid-twenties. He had several fracture bones adding up to torture. He died from a single GSW to the chest, after his killer had finished torturing him. This case had everyone in turmoil since they couldn't figure out who he was. Brennan picked up the skull and moved it in her hands slowly searching for something she hadn't seen before.

She was so intrigued in her work that she didn't notice a man slip into the lab, or the now lifeless security guard hitting the ground. Brennan stared at a single spot on the skull seeing an anomaly, it was rougher than the other parts of the skull.

She set it down on the rack before grabbing a pen and wrote down a note, she was on the second word when a whipping sound filled the lab. Brennan looked up in shock and saw a man dressed all in back with a now smoking gun. She then touched her abdomen slightly and pulled away she saw blood. She tried to grab something for support but couldn't get a hold of anything before her legs gave out.

The man turned and walked away after grabbing all the files they had on the case. Brennan's vision was becoming fuzzier as the pain increased. She turned her head when she heard footsteps rushing towards her, she saw Daisy kneeling beside her as her vision started to turn dark.

She could hear faintly Daisy's frantic voice calling 911 even as she put pressure on her wound. Brennan felt her whole body succumb to the darkness. And, the note drifted to the ground by an invisible draft already getting blood soaked into it, it read. 'There is...' before it cut off.
