I clutched Surayah's hand, as if trying to support myself. Her wide eyes looked up at me, innocent, curious, hopeful. Her mouth parted in awe as she saw the scenery surrounding her. Mass of greens were vibrantly incandescent under the first droplets of sunshine of the rising burning orb of fire. The clouds, mysterious swirls of whites and purples and oranges, dipped low to the horizon, bowing in welcome. Wild flowers, blues and pinks and reds and yellows, sprouted from the dew painted earth, rooted stubbornly, laughing, whispering, dancing with the breeze; lone and unseen, it tickled the blades of grasses, jemmed with soft droplets of dew, sparkling, setting the entire field alit with wishes, dreams, hopes. I dropped to my knees, fisted the earth in my worn hands, kissed it, and wept. Surayah stared at me in confusion and cupped my sobbing face into her small hands, so young, so gentle. I dropped the dirt, clutched the little girl close to my heart, my whisper caressing her face. "We're home."
